Thank you, Louise.

You mean MM I have used his name for many years, Dom, long before you came along, but I will respect your request. As most of your members are indeed ex CL members they would know his first name.

Re links not sure why we or me has a problem doing this, for sure all the other phpBB forums I use I have no trouble doing this.

By the way I did just that with the Amazon link and the very same link picture MM posted, but a member said it would not open for him. although I had no problems, very strange.

Just a test to see if this works?

Yes it's easily removed, mine is held in place by a suction pad on the windscreen behind the rear view mirror. You can leave the wiring in place, but care needed when cleaning the dashboard.

Hello, Jackie hope your well..

I would be careful removing the cameras too often, the brackets especially in Cyprus become brittle and can easily fall apart, better if you can just to remove the memory card and look at the contents on your PC with a card reader.

I have broken several camera brackets removing the dash cam.

Jim hello, yes I'm fine thanks, just miss you all in Cyprus.

Mine hasn't got a bracket, it's quite light weight, and it's held in place by suction, so mine would be easy to take off.

Hope you're well too.

I like the look of Jim's Innoo dashcam (currently £64 with free P@P from amazon uk. Then I looked at Lloyd's earlier link for his Mio MiVue 538 model at £97 (also free P&P amazon uk) and to be honest, there wasn't much by way of features and spec to pick between them... Apart from the 50% price difference, of course..

However, another tab in Lloyd's Mio mIVue 538 link:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mio-538-Accide ... 2B538&th=1

led me to something very interesting indeed!

MIO MiVue Drive 50 LM Dash Cam and Sat Nav, Full Europe

Altogether another beast! Combines the HD Dashcam with a full-blown 5" screen GPS Satnav, covering all of west and east Europe, with free lifetime Maps and Safety camera updates!

Tempted to treat myself to one of these two-in-one babies at £199-99 for my 70th this time next week... Late birthday present, though, as it won't be in stock at Amazon until 27 Aug.. After I've croaked, my grandaughter can have it for her little Corsa.

Cheers- AL :)

Hi Jackie,

I like the sound of the suction pad and the camera sitting behind the rear view mirror.

What make/model do you have?

I was pleased to be able to hide all the cabling above the head lining and behind the trim, except for the last 6" or so the the plug..

Yes thanks. I have got it now from that link. Never had a dashcam before and think it might be more useful on the rear window but how do you fit it. My rear (back) door opens and the back window opens and closes. I like it fully open during hot weather so it can't be fitted to the glass.
Something like a Land Rover Discovery perhaps, with the drop down rear screen, Austin?

NOT a good idea to drive on open roads with an 'empty' rear window! As you are sucking CO fumes from the exhaust back into the cabin... Without hardly noticing it, you'll start falling asleep, then in the worst case scenario, become unconscious, whilst still driving along the motorway at 60-70mph...

Cheers- AL

I take that in essence, in order to do its job properly, a Dashcam needs to be mounted centrally, close to the rear view mirror? Whereas I always liked my crap (and unsupported Medion) Satnav mounted bottom right of the screen, where I could then feed the USB power cable down and around the steering column in my Corsa, straight down into the ciggy lighter cum power socket, keeping all cabling out of my way..

I'd prefer a 'hard wire' solution, that leaves a short USB feed socket tail up near the rear view mirror, tbh, with no trailing wires down across the screen and dashboard / centre console area. Plus, this would free the power socket to plug my Galaxy Ace into on longer journeys.

Makes me laugh, but when I bought my Corsa brand new in Oct 2004, I ordered the optional extra ash tray and cigarette lighter for a mere £65 (they previously came as as standard in most cars...) Suffice it to say that I've never used either accoutriament once, in 13 years of driving this wonderful little car. Power socket, to pump the tyres up, yes.

Does anyone have a decent purchase link for a hard wiring usb kit that gets the Dashcam / Satnav power feed coming out of the headlining above the rear view mirror, please?

Just a thought, but my Corsa has a much-enhanced interior light panel above there. I'm sure there can be some connections in there to tap into, assisted by my multi-meter?

Cheers- AL :)

A photo of the back of your motor might help provoke some constructive suggestions as to possible rearcam placement, Austin?

My dash cam is behind the rear view mirror, and so the driver cannot see the screen and is not distracted.
All the wiring is behind the trim and is not showing at all. The end of the wire plugs into the cigar lighter and there is a spare USB socket left for any accessories

Thanks, Trev, but the model I have my eyes on is a dual 5" display Satnav, Dashcam combo unit. So I'm just asking advice on where this would be optimally placed in the car. Dead centre, just below rear view mirror, or dead centre just above the dashboard? Would need to see the screen, in safest possible manner, without losing peripheral vision on what'going on ahead and behind me...

Any thoughts please, folks? Cheers- AL :?

Result of this thread: my dashcam was installed 3½ years ago and gave good results. I've been sleeping on both ears and not checked its working for 2 years ++. Yesterday, I brought in the memory chip, put it in the 'puter. It was not even detected! I don't know yet whether the problem is just the chip or also the gizmo - will check.

Thanks for alerting me by this thread.

You should format the memory card at least once per month...

You would think that the SD card, running in loop mode, would be auto formatted by its host device (Dashcam) when full, before starting recording afresh. This is an operation that only takes but a few seconds, after all...

Looks good at first sight thanks, Jim. But hang on a mo... It clips around the existing rear view mirror. Clever, but what happens at night, when you have some asshole behind you with ultra bright lamps on full beam?

Natural reaction is to put the rear view mirror into anti-dazzle mode. Which will then knock out the front facing cam with this setup, surely?

Cheers- AL :?

That is a downside of it.... It does have two cameras, front and back, but you need to run a cable to rear and yoy would lose auto-dareking mirror etc.
