Wildlife video from the area I lived before I came to Cyprus..

Post by cyprusmax47 » Thu May 21, 2020 6:06 pm

Just watched a film in German TV with lovely Alpine scenery and animal photography. I didn't realize that such beauty was right in front of my door.
Unfortunately the language is only in German, but it is not really necessary to understand what they are saying. Here some explanation what's about:

Filmmaker Jürgen Eichinger not only presents the Zugspitze as a picture-book idyll, but also shows the other, more serious side of the mountain: whether scorching heat, freezing cold or hurricane-like storms, floods and the onset of winter - the Zugspitze has many faces.

At 2,962 meters, the Zugspitze is the highest German peak. For many, it is the epitome of the over-development of the Alps and mass tourism. But this mountain also has another, unknown side: Away from the crowds of tourists there are lonely and still almost untouched corners and valleys. They hide diverse habitats with numerous natural treasures. Highlights are, for example, the spectacular Partnachklamm gorge or the wildly romantic Eibsee. The latter is called the "Bavarian South Seas" by many because of its turquoise waters and picturesque bays.
In his film Jürgen Eichinger shows a fascinating journey from the valley to the summit, from the abundance of life to inhospitable summit regions. In three years of shooting he documented that the high mountains are not lifeless, bare stone and ice deserts, but are richly filled with hardy life. Over millions of years, these species have learned to brave storms and the onset of winter: rock ptarmigan, chamois and marmot all have insulating coats. Common viper, mountain lizard and alpine salamander, for example, make the best possible use of the sparse heat radiation with their dark colouring.
With increasing "travel height", it turns out that the torrent is the lifeline for extremely diverse habitats. But in a few years it will have largely dried up, because its source - the Zugspitze Glacier - will have melted away due to global warming.

I can see it now, but it is in German. Are there any subtitles?

What I said in my post it is unfortunately only in German. That's why I added the translated text what's about in this film. (all the text is there..)
By the way, it will only be available to see until 28.5.20, so it is not important that it is in the video category, perhaps you would be so kind and change it into the General section.. :?: :?:

I wouldn't worry, it has had plenty of views here, considering it is a foreign language film etc. Besides, people would moan. :)

195 views so far is really more than I expected after a very slow start....

This conversation is probably helping.

People look if they see other people have posted. Who knows, they come for the conversation, and stay for the film?

What I miss though is your comment if you like this countryside in Bavaria....
