This is an old story that explains why the bottles are being retrieved today.

I couldn't imagine that spending two years at the bottom of the sea would do anything to improve the local plonk!

Is a good excuse, blaming the temperature of the sea. Depending how deep down they stored the wine the temperature in Summer was for sure not 12C as the surface temp in August is app 30C.
