Charity Shops Open?
Charity Shops Open?
Are any of the charity shops open in Paphos over the UK Easter? I went to several yesterday around lunch-time and they were closed.
Thanks in advance

Re: Charity Shops Open?
Perhaps many of the volunteers were observing the Anglican Good Friday? However, usually there is a sign on the door with opening hours and the ones near us put up signs if any different.

Why do you call it UK Easter all the time? It is also Easter in Holland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Hungary, Romania etc etc etc etc !

Re: Charity Shops Open?
lets just call it the "Roman Easter" as we who are not from the Orthodox Church in Europe refer to it as Eastertime. Perhaps Louise the answer lies in the fact that most people on this site come from the UK
Re: Charity Shops Open?
We could call it something non-controversial. How about "Catholic Easter".

No its not Catholic Easter! Rather I think that I’m correct in saying its most Christian religions with the exception of the Greek Orthodox Church. The Greek Orthodox Churches use a different Callander when calculating their Easter.

Back of Cyprus and others call it the catholic Easter,
High Anglican is Catholic.
The Catholic Easter is certainly the closest and better description than Anglican, which is a rather small sect
Re: Charity Shops Open?
When I said it was non-controversial I was joking.
I was brought up a Catholic, but fortunately only experienced a sectarian attitude once. That was when the mother of my first-wife to-be was surprised that I enjoyed fireworks displays. She didn't think "my lot" would considering the historical significance. I am afraid I just laughed in her face.

Oooo no that's far too controversial.
The above smileys will tell you that.
Using that logic, a religion could all itself "The Correct Path to God", and all other religions would be known as "The Non correct Path to God".

I think we are simply chewing the fat over this and no serious thoughts.
However, I’m glad, Dominic, that you’ve experienced little religious bigotry. As a Catholic growing up in Scotland, from an Irish community background, we faced it a lot, from jobs, through much more. I also faced attitudes in England that were anti-Catholic and anti-Irish. History often doesn’t easily forget.
