Polis Hill Speed Limit..

Post by trevnhil »

Those who use Polis road / hill out of Paphos towards Tsada, will know that it has recently been resurfaced.. When the new tarmac was laid the white lined were done almost immediately.
However during the last few days the lines have been done again more permanently, and also in the middle of the driving lanes the speed limit has been written on the roadway.
When you go up the hill from Tremithousa traffic lights you are in a 30kph zone.. As you pass the total garage on the left you come to a round sign on a pole showing you that the speed limit is now 80kph..
But a few mts away on the roadway is a painted sign showing you that the speed limit is 50kph..
So,I wonder which one is correct.. ??

Do your words mean that the 80 km sign will be changed to 50 km the same as the Newly Painted ones on the road ??

We have found it confusing as well, so we do fifty at the bends and tend to go faster on the straight, I really don't like that road at all, and even when doing over the speed limit we have had people so close behind us beeping their horn...also people overtaking on the bend....hate that road lol.

We drive up and down it most days and I don't think I've ever had anybody beeping horns at anybody else.

Overtaking on a bend, that is a different story, unfortunately.

If somebody tailgates me though, I just slow down.

If you think that road is bad try hardnot pass in the lakes, I did it on a 50cc moped an FS1E.
I ended up in first gear after the car in front got his gears wrong.

Never been beeped, even when we were driving a red plate while on holiday. Mind, there were loads more HGVs on the road then, cement mixers, rebar lorries, etc. so the traffic flow was generally slower.

I really really dislike tailgaters and yes, I too generally slow down to let them pass. I also dislike those who overtake me to fill my safety distance between me and the car that I had been following!

I had to do the whole trip from Stroumbi fuel station down to the Trimithousa lights at 100 ish early one Sunday morning. I was following the ambulance taking my Dave to hospital...

And you played hell about me taking a thread off topic !!!!

I looked again last night and all the speed roadway signs are 50km, at least away from the traffic lights..
I feel sure that the round 80km per hour metal sign near the petrol station will soon be changed .

If you get sidetracked on the Polis hill road you end up in a deep ditch (or in a ravine where some locals have ditched their fridges and wash machines)
