When is hot like these days: Outdoor Air Cooler is perfect

Post by cyprusmax47 »

So hot Summer had started for a sudden and temperatures rose already to more than 34 C by very low humidity, which are normal meteorological phenomena in Juni/Juli when the wind comes from inland. If you have a BBQ (perhaps with guests) in the afternoon it is very comfortable to cool the air down by ca 10 C, running a so called evaporation cooler which operates with water only AND very little electricity consumption. I had a similar unit 10 years ago as the Summer in Polis was so hot and no wind at all. After switching on, the whole area where we had the dinner table was instantly comfortable to enjoy food and drinks while without it would be unbearable. Our guests could not believe the difference when I explained the system is using only normal water and very little electric. (300 W, which was important for me as I had my own solar system without been connected to the grid.) As far as I know are the costs ca 500 Euro and available in Paphos . Attached a video link from Honeywell which explains how systems work.

Also a link from one of the many producers to give you an idea how a unit can look with a powerful fan. (airflow 8000 m3/h)

Finally I want to add that it is mainly thought to be used outdoors....

Hi Max

Sounds interesting. I've seen them outside bars and restaurants along by the harbour. Do you know the names of suppliers of these units?

Jim, the importer for Cyprus is the same "Green" Company which advertises in RockFM and as far as I remember from your earlier posts you bought a 5 kwp net-metering from them. Office is on the main road down to the harbour near the large parking... Anybody interested in the full address can PM me.

OK, thanks Max. I think it was you who sold me the Pool Pump system from them and I recently bought 8 AC's from them as well as the Net Metering system. I'll call in and see what they've got.

Many Thanks

Jim, this was 7 years ago, in the meantime I am not selling anymore. I am glad the Pool Pump is still working fine and the electricity costs you saved in all these years payed for this system. If you buy one of this Air Coolers led us know if you are happy with it. (I was very happy with mine in the past)

Forgot to mention that my dogs loved it so much to be in the cold airstream. Whenever I moved them as I thought it is not good for them they came back to lay right in front of it. Another advantage was: no mosquitoes or flies at or under the table and all the plants on the patio were thriving as well...

Lifesabeach wrote: Fri Jun 09, 2017 11:08 pm Sounds very interesting. Perhaps what we need! BUT, do these not work better in areas with low humidity ( i.e. Nicosia)? How effective would they be in Paphos? I have no idea so just asking...
Of course these systems work best with medium/low humidity. As our climate is different every few miles depending where you live in Paphos district and depending from which direction the Wind comes. In my place, (near Tsada Golf) if the wind comes from inland the humidity goes down to 20% which is very uncomfortably for me. On the other hand if Wind is from South/West humidity can reach as much as 90% sometimes. In this case I would suggest to set the unit to "fan only" and the fan speed to medium. The same with humidity or not happened to me when I lived in Polis area, 1 mile from the beach, when the wind came from inland in July it was very very dry air and I had to water my flowerpots twice a day...>50.
Anyhow, I always measure humidity and temperature, rainfall etc... then I can talk, not only guess or listen what other people say about the weather conditions. (have 4 test stations in my place and in the past I also measured the wind force. (as I had windmills installed) Lidl sold this year very nice test stations for humidity indoor, outdoors, beside temperature in/out...I bought several as presents for friends.!

An outdoor fountain, garden feature, would work as well. The water spray draws the heat. Arabs have used them for centuries.

Yes, you are right, any evaporation will lower the outdoor temperature a bit. Before I bought a Air Cooler I used to spray water on my hedge in hot late afternoons which helped for about 20 minutes only, until the leaves were dry again. So if you have a party you need one person to do this job all the time. I had also a large garden feature, pump run by a solar panel, with the side effect that there were always a lot of mosquitos around the pond even with fish in it.
But what I am recommended in the first place was a professional Outdoor Air cooler which can move 8000 m3/h cool air and not one of the many "Toys" one can find on the wide market. A large water tank is also important as the unit can use >6 l/h. This was the disadvantage of the cooler I bought in the past as the water tank was only ca 12 l.

Never mind the various botch-ups.
Switch on the aircons! They are the ONLY sure way of keeping cool. If you cannot afford to what are you doing living here?
;)

Hundreds of these Outdoor Aircooler are already installed at Paphos Restaurants and Bars. They are all wrong? Except at Dubai I never heard of people running air-cons outdoors :x :x YOU can try it. Perhaps you stay like usual in the politics section...if you don't understand a topic ;) ;)
