As a general rule, I would have thought it unwise to carry "valuable jewellery" in a cloth bag and then to leave it unguarded in the back of any car but, above all, in a rental car. I'm sure it would be curmudgeonly to say what I really think…

I would have thought it unwise to take valuable jewellery with you, when on holiday anyway.

What then is the purpose of jewellery, except to adorn yourself with when you are out having a good time?

Costume jewellery would suffice whilst on holiday, not only do you risk losing it, but as in this case, have it stolen.

I nearly had an expensive wrist watch 'lifted' at the airport, by airport staff.

I would never risk taking 'the real thing' on holiday, except my wedding ring.

I never take expensive jewellery on holiday with me to draw attention I might be wealthy when I’m not
I just take costume jewellery except for one pair of earrings which never leave my ears
There was a spate of cars been broken into outside the Almyra 8/10 years ago, I would never leave anything in a hire car other than beach towel suncream etc then it would be in the boot out of sight, the red plates draw attention as some that go on holiday leave their sensible head at home
