Agios Georgios is a charming village on the edge of the Akamas. It has a lovely harbour and an interesting archaeological site. The perfect place for a nice hotel you would think. Well, there is one, but it has remained closed for longer than I can remember. Let's take a look around this mysterious place...

A fascinating blog & whatever the reason for it being closed for such a long time is sad. We visited Agios Georgious on our first visit to Paphos about 20 years ago & it was closed but looked in good nick from the road & in a great location. My wife commented "but there are no shops nearby". That's another reason I liked the location

The person who owned it has/had serious health issues. The tavern opposite the TLC school is owned by the sister of the man who owned the MacArthur hotel.

I read there were two brothers involved who didn’t get along.

How did it get its name? Is it named after the famous US WW2 General MacArthur who promised "I shall return" to the Philippines to retake them from the Japanese. Was the original owner a WW2 buff? Just a thought for everyone to ponder.

Re: Macarthur Hotel, Agios Georgios
I seem to recall passing by this hotel when we were staying at Panareti Coral Bay resort in a 1 bedroom apt for just one night.
It followed a day or so after the coldest winter Cyprus had experienced for many years. Snow fell in the coastal resorts as well as Nicosia and also our own large village/suburb on the outskirts of Ypsonas, Limassol not too far from the General Hospital.
February 2015 - we took our electric fan heater and no way could we keep the apartment warm, even with the split unit combined with the fan heater. All of the guests crowded into the bar in the evening - body heat was the only thing keeping the smiles on our faces!
We had some beautiful blue skies but even a couple of days after the snowfall, it was still bitterly cold.

We drove towards the strip at Coral Bay holiday resort and worked our way back to our hotel.
Next morning (21 February) we took more photos at the edge of the cliffs by our hotel (Panareti Coral Bay Hotel)."

Back here in UK this morning, we were at -4 degrees Celsius at around 09:00hrs - black ice and thick frost has been with us since Friday evening.
