Coronavirus: Charges being considered against spreader from the US
A woman who arrived from the US but failed to self-isolate infecting 14 other people so far is being investigated for possible offences, Justice Minister Emily Yiolitis said on Monday.Responding to a question on Twitter about the conduct of the woman, the minister said she has been placed in self-isolation and is under supervision....

Worth noting that she travelled from a Cat C country and DIDN'T self isolate. I recall a convseration on here about people not self-isolating from the UK (who arrived before UK became Cat B). They are breaking the law.

Throw the book at her!
It is because of idiots like her that Paphos Hospital has gone into a type of lockdown and I am unable now to visit my wife in hospital.

I did mention this on another post, apparently 50 people who have been in contact with her have been told to self isolate, she attended a dinner party then organized a birthday party for her daughter, been swanning about all over Cyprus, its reported she is part of the Cypriot elite so obviously considers herself above such things as self isolation, if charged and found guilty can serve a prison term and up to €50,000 fine, be interesting to see what happens.

I would imagine she’s not alone
Having no symptoms doesn’t mean you don’t have the virus you could be a carrier, it’s imperative that people adhered to the guidelines given and self isolate for 14 days period

I wonder what the tourists are supposed to be doing then. If they are only here for 7 or 14 days are they confined to the area within the grounds of their hotels or will they be out and about everywhere as normal?
If so, that doesn't make sense as large numbers of them won't be in social isolation....

Hi Dee
The tourists are from Category A countries who do not require a test or Category B countries such as the UK who have to be tested prior to flying. This lady was from a high risk Category C country hence the requirement to self isolate. Tourists are not required to do his as their countries are deemed lower risk for the virus.

But what happens if a tourist from category A or B is selected for a random test at the airport and is found positive? Presumably they have to quarantine, but where?

What happens to the rest of the passengers on that flight, do they self isolate.
Re: Coronavirus: Charges being considered against spreader from the US
"Charges being considered"....why only "considered" or will politics come into it.

Hopefully she'll be billed for the cost of treatment of her victims.

It will may be who she knows, or who she is related to that might influence a decision. Not good, but possible.

Re: Coronavirus: Charges being considered against spreader from the US
Another 11 new cases in Cyprus to day, 6 of them apparently connected to the women who flew in from the US, that makes a total of 30 that she has infected one way or another.
Re: Coronavirus: Charges being considered against spreader from the US
It makes one wonder what logic lies behind the decision of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry to issue a warning to the media calling for the naming of COVID-infected establishments to be ‘avoided’.
A similar unfortunate statement came from the Justice Ministry, that has appeared weak in taking a firm decision on how to deal with the irresponsible woman who is known to have infected at least two dozen people with the coronavirus, knowing she was positive, yet going ahead with organising parties for large crowds, creating a chain and cluster.
The ministry said it was waiting for a report from the health services to decide if there is a case to be prosecuted, in other words, passing the buck for political blame onto others.
By letting this woman get away with it, while jailing a young man for violating the first day of lockdown curfew to see his fiancée, simply fuels the argument that it is who you know in Cyprus that is important, and not what you do or say.

I think all the world and his dog know that relationships/friendships influence the outcome of any action/non action, in everything in Cyprus.
