€1.8 million surplus for Peyia municipality in 2020
Municipal authorities in Peyia have announced a surplus of €1.8 million which is provided for in the 2020 annual budget approved by the Municipal Council on Tuesday evening.
As Peyia mayor Marinos Lambrou told Phileleftheros, it is well-know that Peyia municipality is a profitable local authority and this is backed by the official numbers.
“As per next year’s budget, we will have an income of €8.3 million and expenses of €6.4 million. The surplus together with €5 million bank deposits will go towards large-scale construction projects like the rebuilding of Michalakis Kyprianou Street that connects Peyia’s residential core with the Coral Bay tourist area and the construction of a sea-side promenade that will begin at Potimo Bay in Kissonerga and end in St George fishing harbour in Peyia,” Lambrou said, adding that these projects will begin immediately while tenders will also be invited regarding a breakwater project at a local beach.

Perhaps they should invest a bit more of that in refuse collection? People often moan about that in Peyia. And water.

I'm just going by what gets posted on facebook. Specifically, the amount of "Is anybody else out of water in Peyia?" posts.

Some roads in Peyia are also in dire need of resurfacing
Re: €1.8 million surplus for Peyia municipality in 2020
I agree about having the roads resurfaced, around our way (lower Peyia) some are in an awful state
Re: €1.8 million surplus for Peyia municipality in 2020
Very rarely do we have water shortages in our part of Pegeia and the roads have just been re-surfaced!

In lower Peyia, as I write, we have been without water since midnight. This happens on a semi-regular basis around 8-10 times a year usually lasting for no longer than one day. No reason is given by the local authority. The roads in some parts of the area may have been resurfaced but here the road surfaces are in poor condition and pot holes grow larger daily. Rubbish collection is also poorly managed and should be improved. I am not against spending money on a coastal pathway and the like, but this should be after ensuring essential services are maintained to the highest standards which should be the first priority for any local authority.

Lucky you, but that is not the general experience of other householders in Peyia.

Water cuts and pressure issues are regular. I have twin tanks on the roof, as there are times when water is off for a couple of days. With rental property, you cant run out of water! The excise always seems to be “old pump breaking down”
Rubbish left around the bins and not picked up then dragged around by wind and animals is a problem and not litter collection, other than voluntary, takes place.

I was under the impression road repairs, came under the national budget?

You should travel on the road at the back of the stadium.
