Out of interest

Post by Lincoln »

When i put a jumper on I put my arms in the sleeves first and then pull the jumper over my head. My wife pulls the jumper over her head first and puts her arms into the sleeves.

Out of interest which way do you do it?

Arms through sleeves, then head through neckhole.

But what method do you use to get back out of your jumper?

A. Grab the back of its neck and pull it off, stretching the neck and somehow resulting in an inside-out jumper.
B. Holding the hem, left hand at right side seam, right hand at left side seam, raise and straighten your arms. Then, with the body off, you can remove each arm from within its sleeve, leaving your jumper right way out and not crumpled.
C. Remove arms from sleeves, then wriggle jumper over head, preserving hairdo.
D. Some other method I've not seen or even thought of!

I use B

I've always done it Lincon's way, arms first, then head, when taking it off, and when putting it on (same routine, arms then head). Head first is a recipe for disaster, as you're likely to don the garment back to front, LOL! Taking it off, it doesn't really matter, I suppose...

Some memories to share: When I worked at Vauxhall Service in Luton as an apprentice back in the late 60's, they had a Training School where Vauxhall dealership employees from all over the world could come for courses. First day, we were all given full length overalls to put on. Two young lads from Nigeria had never seen such garments in their lives!

They both went in arms first, then spent the next 5 minutes doing an apparent tribal dance, hopping around, trying to get their legs in. It was so funny! Naturally, we showed them how to do it, (after wiping the tears from our eyes)- legs first, then pull it up your back, then arms, job done!

Which leaves me with Rowan Atkinson's take on this from a slightly different angle:

But doesn't that mess up your hair big time? Can you give us instructions re the process, Dominic? :) How do you get the jumper over your head if your arms are all tied up? LOL.

Agreed, Dom.. Wifey trims my hair once every 4-6 weeks with a US Wahl dog trimmer, with the 3mm blade guard attached, LOL! No probs with hair styles here. My bonce would survive a long day on site wearing a hard hat, or a long ride up in the Paphos hills wearing a crash helmet!

Not that I do either these days, sadly...

Cheers- AL :)

Simple.
1. With the back of the jumper facing you, insert first one arm then the other into the relevant sleeve (left into left, right into right.)
2. Then you can use both hands to manoeuvre the body and neck of the jumper over your head, having FIRST removed your glasses!
3. Smooth body of jumper down as required.

Arms are not initially restricted within the body of the jumper, as with Lifesabeach's method.
For those who wear makeup and don't want it smeared inside the jumper, the arms-then-head method is best as there is no risk of the body of the jumper riding up over the face while struggling to fit arms into sleeves.

Surely you put your arms into your jacket first, then fit the jacket round your body. It's the same with a jumper. :D

And the quickest way to stretch the neck of your jumper is to always grab the neck to pull the jumper off. (And they last longer and bobble/pill less if you don't use fabric conditioner.)

Well I never expected to get such a response. Amazing. We all have our own particular way of putting on our jumpers. Thanks for all replies.

I have a slight variation ......

I always turn any top inside out and then normally put my head through first, followed by my arms.

Why inside out ?? To stop getting white marks from my deodorant on the outside of my clothes

Is there a gender bias to the technique? More research is needed.
