Konia Island
Konia Island
Anyone know what is happening on the motorway island at Konia. Seems to be heavy machinery, lorries and a damm great crane working there. Ideal spot for a high rise block of flats good views easy motorway access. Perfect!!!

Re: Konia Island
I'm wondering if it is anything to do with the new motorway? There is some clearing work going on in Stroumpi at the moment too.

Re: Konia Island
Could it be another fountain, like the one on the other roundabout. Two people who I met on a walk the other day thought it might be. As Lloyd said, the mayor has already criticized that entrance to the town.

A statue of Aphrodite would be nice to see as you
arrive at Paphos / Konia roundabout.

Re: Konia Island
If the idea is to beautify the entrance to Paphos I do hope they construct something visible as, at the moment, it is just a hole in the ground.
Re: Konia Island
Just voicing my hope, that's all. Nothing more sinister than that and definitely not worthy of any further comment.Happy in Cyprus wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 3:16 pmAre you concerned then that they're going to have a below-ground featureGive them a chance: they've only just started work on what is clearly a major project. And if they are spending €1.3 million (as reported), it sounds like it will be something impressive; for which you will need solid foundations. There were all kinds of ravines and uneven ground in this roundabout prior to work being started. I'm sure the civil engineers know better than us ex-pats what they're doing.
Re: Konia Island
Just for your information the Limnaria river raven runs from Konia right through the middle of the roundabout, and it is very deep there.
It then continues and the way down through universal to the sea coming out next to the Alexander the great hotel.

Re: Konia Island
Yes- many years ago, the newly constructed wooden log coastal footpath bridge crossing the Limnaria exit to the coast by the the Alexander the Great hotel was demolished by the force of water coming down...
I've often wondered why they don't trap and preserve this rich seasonal source of fresh water, rather than just waste it into the sea...

Re: Konia Island
The 1,3 million would have been better spent on upgrading the General Hospital ,benefiting the people of Paphos.

Re: Konia Island
Yes, it is meant to produce it's own electricity. I think it will be great when finished.
