Beautiful stone table with mosaic inlay

Post by Happy in Cyprus » Sun Apr 18, 2021 4:21 am

For sale, a beautiful stone table with mosaic inlay. Would suit indoors or out. Custom made by well-known local mosaic artist, Sharon Taylor. Has spent too many years languishing unused (but covered) in our pump house and needs to find a new home. Size: 140 x 50 x 49.5cm. The upper stone surface has been sealed. For sale at €600 - a fraction of the price we originally paid for it. Lloyd 99 385218 or PM.

If it doesn't sell for that price or thereabouts I'll keep it, I'm not desperate. If you think I'm going to give away a custom-made work of art by Sharon Taylor, you're mistaken 8-)

My only question would be, is why has it not been in use?
It's lovely and it deserves exposure not shoved away under cover ☹️
It is I, LeClerc

We bought it soon after we arrived in Cyprus, the intention being that it would reside inside a large wooden outside pergola, near the pool. But then we found we were not the sort of people to sit lounging around the pool all day long, so it's intended use became redundant. It was carefully wrapped and stored so that the detritus or everyday life would not land on it. We just don't have a use for it anymore, but it is in immaculate condition and worth every penny of what I am asking.

What is anything worth? Funny quick story: just over a year ago, with Brexit about to befall, I sent a pair of Concorde seats to an auction house in the UK. I had bought them on ebay 15 years earlier for around £1,000, or a bit over. The seats came with a framed Certificate of Authenticity signed by a BA captain, and as they were seats 1C and 1D, that is where celebs like Princess Di, Kylie Minogue, Michael Jackson would have sat. The auctioneer set a start price of £1,500 and an anticipated sales price of £1,500 to £2,500. He rated this the star selling lot in the auction and promoted it widely. We watched the auction live from our home computer and couldn't believe what we were seeing. There were two keen, determined buyers (always a prerequisite), bidding was brisk and topped out at a staggering £7,000 + buyers commission!! The story made one or two national dailies.

In the next auction, four other sellers sent Concorde seats to the same auction house, having seen our seats sell for that sum. Admittedly they weren't as nice as ours and did not have that amazing provenance. One or two sold for around £1,000, the others failed to sell.

Her work is lovely. Just one point though, her first name is spelt "Sharen".

I'm a trier  I could post a lot more... just say the word ;)

At that time I knew that it would be virtually impossible to send goods back to the UK after Brexit without getting caned for (possibly) VAT by UK Customs, plus all sorts of other complications and paperwork. I had quite a collection of Concorde artefacts and the seats were just part of it. Fortuitous I shipped when I did, as 2-3 months later Covid struck, auction houses were shut down for half a year and consumer confidence took a battering.

You're right of course, and even as I typed her name I had a feeling that her first name was spelt differently, but didn't follow through with checking.
