Re: Secure delivery of letter to the UK
Thanks So it sounds like sending the passport by Registered Post should be ok And do you get a signature on delivery if you send it by Registered Post? The Passport Office in the UK say it is advisable to get a signature And can the letter be Track and Traced online like when you send a letter over...

Re: Secure delivery of letter to the UK
Does anyone know the best options and cost of posting a small letter by secure delivery to the UK ? I have recently renewed my UK passport online and they are asking me to return the old passport to the UK by post and they also advise to use signed for delivery So what are the options if I go to th...

Re: Secure delivery of letter to the UK
This post is mind-boggling. I have never had to send my old passport anywhere and I've got a pile of them on my desk. On reading your post, I have been asking myself whether it is not a scam. Is the destination address that they give you goldplated? If you decide to send it, make sure that the top ...

Re: ISOP the chaos begins!
Simple solution, if you know it’s going to be chaos, rightly or wrongly, just avoid the area at those hours - they’re the same everyday. Or just go further down Mesogi Road and come back up via the road by shipshape that bring you out near the Paphos HomeMarket, it’s hardly a massive detour.

Re: Old lenses-new frames
When I had new glasses earlier this year, I did exactly that with my old lenses to create a cheap second pair as my prescription hadn’t changed - one lens had a slight chip in that was driving me crazy but fine as a back up or when gardening etc.

Re: Is it really worth hosing the solar panels?
If they are on the ground or vet easily accessible, yes. If they are difficult to get to or you need to pay someone more able to do it, complete waste of time and money. I used to clean ours. But now just leave the rains to do the job in the winter time. The stats I have show such a consistent set o...

Re: U.K. Passport Renewal Experience
I wonder if the new EU ruling affects British citizens, living in Britain. I hadn't heard of this before, I'm going to Rhodes in September for my granddaughter's wedding, my current passport expires in May 2024. Question is, will I be denied access to Rhodes if the issue date differs. I'll check th...

Re: Agora Tavern (Paphos Old town)
Agora is without doubt our favourite place to eat. We’ve been going for years in the old venue and now in the new location that opened last spring. Yes, it’s a meze, meat or vegetarian, vegan by request in advance, thought they do a smaller version at lunchtime. We haven’t been for lunch so not sure...

U.K. Passport Renewal Experience
I have recently renewed my passport and thought I’d share the experience with those that may be approaching the expiry date. Remember that these days the expiry date as far as the EU is concerned is 10 years from the issue date rather than the expiry date which may be later than that depending on ho...

Re: Recommendation for a humidifier
Have I been misunderstanding something? I always thought that increasing humidity level makes you feel hotter. Hence the night ‘feels like’ or heat index temps on weather forecasts. I definitely did last aturday night when down at at sea level in Paphos and the difference in how we felt compared to ...

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons
Alan, we’ve had a very different experience. Clean the cell once a year - the same way as you but mostly these days the addition of No More Scale keeps this down and last month it just took a couple of mins with the pressure washer to blast away any build up of scale on the cell. Definitely never ha...

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons
I don't like the smell of chlorin, does a salt water pool still have this smell? It depends on how well maintained the pool is as how heavily used it it. From chemical safety facts.org; “Pool smell is not due to chlorine, but to chloramines, chemical compounds that can form in pool water. Chloramin...

We have a water softener since day 1, wouldn’t be without it. Zero scale on our appliances. Also reverse osmosis filter for the drinking water, not a drop of scale in the kettle in 8 years - total opposite of our other property in Tala.

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons
I wonder where all the sodium goes? The salt? Ultimately nowhere, you never ‘use it up’ (unless you pump out water and replace with fresh). My chemistry is not great but after the salt is converted to chlorine by electrolysis or some such wizardry, I believe it’s then converted back to its original...

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons
According to Ian's original post it costs €500 to replace. I had always thought that a salt water pool meant that you didn't have to use chlorine. Learn something new every day. If you just have a salt water pool you just have a salty pool. The SWP has a cell with metal blades, titanium I think, th...

Re: Salt water pool - pros & cons
Dee, agree with your views on the water feel. At the correct PPM the salt level is approx 1/3 of a human tear (c9000PPM) which in itself is about 1/4 of seawater (c35000PPM). The advice you were given about not running the pump for long hours in the sun depleting chlorine is a little odd. It’s the s...

Max, they are not not using professional equipment, they are using equipment appropriate for the task and geological conditions. My friend is very well aware of the geology of Cyprus having given many talks and tours on the subject.
