Re: Coronavirus: "Cyprus ready to reopen doors to tourists from June 15" (Updated)

Well if it,s In the Daily Mail it must be true . Mind you according to the same newspaper UK has the highest number of obese people in Europe and BAMES in Europe and don’t forget countries record deaths differently as well around Europe but what did Disraeli say “ there are three types of lies - lie...

Re: Flies!!

Turning the soil with a plough releases hundreds of flies so I guess we can blame the Common Agricultural Policy. Cyprus has elected dairy as one of the beneficiaries and so clearing and ploughing land for fodder qualifies for grants. We have many farmers around here who , have ploughed any land tha...

Re: Lifeguards appeal for more staff as Paphos waters already crowded, they say

It seems there is a euphoria developing , a kind of we have cracked it feeling amongst the populace . The motorway is really busy with lots of cars heading to their country homes both last night and from 5 this morning. You cannot book a seat at the popular bars in Limassol for next Thurs/Fri/Sat . ...

Re: Sports Direct, Superhome Centre etc

As I said I’m delighted that the major towns are conforming but that isn’t the case in the outlying areas nor do the local police ( there are 4 police stations of substantial size in this area and indeed both Episkopi and Pissouri have police stations within 50 metres of the supermarkets ) doing any...

Re: Sports Direct, Superhome Centre etc

There is more and more proof that the key to controlling the virus is social distancing and it is the one area that Cyprus has not got sorted . Supermarkets unlike other countries don’t control entry numbers, have no marked area for queueing outside nor have they made narrow aisles one way and the v...

Re: Protocol for new "regime" as tourism eyes restart

Is tourism Cyprus's main source of income ? Tourism accounts for about 20% of GDP and is forms part of the Services sector which is 87% of GDP and I believe the lions share of that 87% is financial services. There is a very large FX Exchange business here these days and plenty of money swills throug...

Re: Movement outside district only for swimming, caring for vulnerable

Not if the driving force of the easing is to kick start the economy as the Finance Minister has made clear in his recent briefings . Then you need to allow citizens plenty of opportunity to get out and buy things not just from supermarkets but the myriad of stores that will re-open on May 4th and , ...

Re: Anastasiades announces easing of lockdown from May 4

Yes dates rather dotted around but from May21st all restrictions of movement are lifted and outside only catering establishments re-open with “Hygiene “ rules which must be social distancing and very much. Improved cleanliness . Would seem until then 2 people plus children can at least go out walkin...

Re: Surely Not What We read elsewhere

Josef K , the Doctor, who you call an idiot is the head honcho advising the government on the virus that’s why I’m hoping he was misquoted though even then it is an amazing thing to have said given that at the same press conference he said that he was still very worried about the lack of social dist...

Re: So quite outside

Just reflects the low price per barrel on the spot market doesn’t it though that is changing as the large producers cut the amount being pumped . Normal practice here when business drops off is to put prices up. We live alongside the motorway and whilst traffic is down during the day between 4 and 6...

Re: Paphos cheered by high number of negative Covid-19 results

That's the conundrum isn't it ? It this virus doesn't die off then we are faced with a them and us society going forward. Those that have had the virus and wear a bracelet who can get travel insurance and travel again , go back to work etc and those that haven't and can't and worse those over 65 who...

35 new cases largest increase on a single day isn’t it .Greece has said the Orthodox Easter has to be very low key with no family gatherings and no trips to villages. Guess we will follow suit as well as a limit on number of journeys taken per week. 288000 SMS requests recorded just this last weeken...

Re: Coronavirus Update (Live)

Cyprus does have the highest number of police per 100,000 of population 573, compared to an EU average of 318 and a UK average of 212 . So they certainly have enough to police this one would think . We have 3 police stations within 10 KM of each other and each has between 4 and 6 police cars outside...

Gesy Charges for Prescription

http://www.startribune.com/cyprus-to-tighten-controls-on-crossings-across-ethnic-divide/565538342/ So a Boris victory might curtail our trips to the Norths though a Corbyn one would mean such a run on the poor old £ sterling as well as a return to the 1970s restriction on taking sterling abroad that...

New Cyprus Driving Licence and UK Car Rental

As we all rush to conform to the missive on driving licences from the High Commision a salatory tale from my newly returned neighbour who had been to the UK to visit her mum. She had gone clutching her newly issued Cyprus drivers licence and arrived at Gatwick Airport late in the evening. She found ...
