Re: Lockdown
Totally bizarre phenomenon, which scientists cannot explain: https://news.yahoo.com/scientists-mystified-wary-africa-avoids-074905034.html I read a study some months ago that looked at countries with the higest rates of Covid infections/deaths. Countries with the highest rates of Covid were also co...

Re: Fire In The Hills.
Whether you like it or not, these facts get reported in the newspaper. If Cyprus wants good protection from the effects of fires in the countryside, it is only fair to pay the pilots well for this essential service... Am not sure how big an issue it is/was or whether it was a one off occurence - th...

Re: Lockdown
I think Austria has about 65% vaccinated which is quite low and not really comparable to the situation in Cyprus. Positive cases in Cyprus are rising again though - even with the much reduced testing. Further lockdowns are not the answer though I don't think. I think the next step should be regular ...

Re: Fire In The Hills.
More can and still needs to be done but things are improving and Cyprus has recently received the first disbursement from the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) and part of that initial €157 million funding is: "€19 million to upgrade the country's capacity to combat with fire hazards: p...

Re: Fire In The Hills.
I always wondered why the EU dosnt get together and have a fire fighting team, , you could have firefighting planes based in say southern Italy, they would be ready to go, and would be over most med countries in a few hours, the cost would be split between member countries, with the countries needi...

Already popular with British expats, this new accolade will attract mor...

Re: Post Office customs duty/vat payment
I recently registered with Thalis to allow me to pay for 2 parcels from eBay online with Cyprus Post I also had a card in the post box to bring proof of purchase for a small gift my daughters sent for my birthday. The gift was £14 and I provided proof of purchase but still paid €7-20 customs duty a...

Re: Post Office customs duty/vat payment
Looks dodgy to me - the link in the message is for a domain that was registered in the US 11 days ago. Domain not linked to any website and the name itself points to it being a scam. The Cyprus post has recently warned about bogus emails being sent out regards tax owed for deliveries and it's likely...

Monument to humble spud in Xylofagou goes viral A monument to the humble potato erected in Xylofagou went viral on Wednesday after photographs from puzzled passers-by circulated Cypriot social media. Thought by many to be a gag or performance piece, the installation is in fact meant to celebrate Xy...

Re: Use of Ev chargers to be restricted
It's irrelevant as to the cause of energy price rises and restricted output. The point I'm making is that it's inadvisable to drive a vehicle whose use is likely to be compromised when supplies become tight. Petrol is always available and each country stores vast reserves. Petrol won't last forever...

Re: Speeding Ticket
They don't have to be visible - just the same as in the UK. We probably have all gone a little over the speed limit at one time or another so not preaching but the AA in the UK put it quite nicely: "Just because you didn’t see a speed camera clearly doesn’t mean the fine is invalid. They aren't...

Re: News from UK.
Most of the articles covering this topic today have been referencing comments made by Minister Nadhim Zahawi - his answer to a question mainly - but with the question and in context it seems to imply that the Registering the jab with a GP is for those who normally live in the UK but may have had jab...
