Re: Labour election results 'catastrophic'

I disagree, East Coasts record spoke for itself, turning a service that previous private companies failed at, into an award winning enterprise, highly regarded by it's customers. The money it received from the Government was paid back during it's tenure, including millions in profits. Indeed the Gov...

As previously stated, it is definitely a lilac, though it doesn't look like Katherine Havemeyer, As the blossoms fade from lavender blue / pink lilac, it looks a bit like Charles Joly, which is sweetly scented, but there are so Many hybrids that you will have to trawl the internet to find the one yo...

I'm afraid that you will have to blame your unsatisfactory service on NXEC ( National Express East Coast ) Pete, as the franchise
by the public company only commenced on the 14th November 2009.

Re: Labour election results 'catastrophic'

Regular passengers praised the service provided by Britain's only publicly owned Rail franchise, & were angry & confused when David Cameron's Government decided to privatise it. 23,000 of them signed a petition demanding that it remained in public hands. The first half of 2013 saw levels of ...

Re: Labour election results 'catastrophic'

In its five years as East Coast, the State run firm returned a little more than £1Billion in premiums as well as several million in profits to the Treasury. It was a veritable cash cow. Detailed financial analysis from the Office of Rail Regulation, shows it was one of two firms to make a net contri...

Interesting points have been raised, Ulsters main trading partner is the Free State, the rest of the UK being it's 2nd., I believe that the outcome of the Brexit negotiations & the border issue will also have an effect on a United Ireland. Luckily, the Northern Irish are entitled to hold an Iris...

Great view Max, my OH is envious.

Last year, I spotted the very same type of snake slithering across one of the walkways on our complex, the sheer size of it took me by surprise
Now that you have informed me that it isn't dangerous, I'll look forward too our next encounter.

Jim B,
Thank you, clearly you understood that it was meant 'metaphorically rather than literally', some people just chose to be pedantic.

Re: Labour election results 'catastrophic'

I agree Royal, but the political landscape in the UK as it stands at the moment shows how unpopular the opposition are in the polls, which probably reflects their feelings on an ineffective & weak leadership. Holding this GE now, in order to wipe out the opposition, is nothing short of political...

Re: Labour election results 'catastrophic'

No Hudswell, It was the will of some of the people, albeit, of those that voted, the leave campaign won, my point is, that calling this ill timed GE (at the beginning of the Brexit negotiations ), She has favored her party over the British people by destroying all opposition. It is not a democracy j...

Re: Labour election results 'catastrophic'

I sadly believe the PM purely called this GE solely for political gain...considering how far ahead the Tories were in the opinion polls. She already had a mandate from parliament. Stating that Parliament was divided whilst the country was united, is in my opinion, a lie of humongous proportions. We ...

I also watched PM Question time & Labour fully backed both the Triple Lock & the Waspi Ladies, it was the Prime Minister who evaded answering the questions put to her on either subject.

Of course.....I forgot.....we'd be getting back £350million per week to put into the NHS. I don't doubt that anyone in the financial sector would lay scorn on any legislation that tried to impose more transparency on their dealings.....& rightly so, considering that it was the Banks that ...

Re: Cost of Brexit: The impact on business and the economy so far

Just exactly how, is swapping one political dogma for another going to remedy the current crisis in the NHS, housing & social care in the UK?. This current Government has been in power for 7years, their record on these subjects speaks for itself.
