Re: Cyprus sees nearly 2 million tourism arrivals in 2021

2 million sounds a big number ! These figures are obviously issued to make things sound good ! But what were the pre covid figures ? Between double and triple I would guess. You don't have to guess - it's stated in the article "but only half the record-breaking pre-pandemic year of 2019"....

Re: Supreme Court overturns conviction in British woman’s rape trial

Thanks for that info, Steve. You seem to have access to far more information than I saw in print. But certainly from what I have read in newspapers, or seen otherwise in the media, the impression formed is where a traumatized young British girl was interviewed for 6 hours and pressured to sign a sta...

Re: Supreme Court overturns conviction in British woman’s rape trial

I'm surprised if the police who dealt with this British girl at the time didn't know that she should have been allowed to have a translator and a lawyer present, before pressuring her to sign a statement. It was the contention of the interviewing police officer and witness that she had been informe...

Re: Supreme Court overturns conviction in British woman’s rape trial

I hope that all the officers who were complicit in this are going to be punished in due course I would imagine it's the procedures that need changing i.e. video taped recordings, legal representation etc. and there should be a programne of re education for all station officers on how to treat femal...

Re: Battery Chickens coming home to roost

Necessity is the mother of invention: Scientists invent method to recycle environmentally-damaging lithium-ion batteries used in electric cars that sees the cells crushed into ‘black dust’ before being separated into valuable component metals. Progress will continue and obstacles overcome/addressed ...

In relation to the term "contamination" - it was clarified later by Dr Tom Peacock - the Imperial College virologist from the post above: "this is not really related to 'quality of the lab' or anything similar - this literally happens to every sequencing lab occasionally! This is part...

However we should also take much of the news from Reuters with a pinch of sale, after all its the same Chairman on the boards of Rueters and Pfizer. A conflict of interests possibly. Not quite - and not new - he's the Chairman of the Thomson Reuters Foundation (London-based charitable arm of Thomso...

Re: Here we go again

As in the UK, these deaths are not directly attributable to Covid. They simply report deaths of patients who contracted Covid up to one month before death. So if you died of lung cancer or a tumour or heart attack, but also contracted Covid before or after going into hospital, that is written up as...

Re: Husband reportedly kills wife to relieve her from pain

Such a sad and difficult topic to grapple with and have many conflicting thoughts on this one. As a Catholic, taking your own life (or getting assistance) goes against the church. That said i've lost a relative recently where their quality of life had been reduced to such a point where you do consid...

Re: Crossing from North Cyprus to Republic from 1 Jan 2022

I still don't see why UK citizens can't enjoy freedom of movement within Cyprus? Probably the Turks aren't that bothered since they are also outside the EU. The majority of UK citizens who voted, choose to restrict their freedoms in this regard. The whole island of Cyprus is in the EU. Britain gave...

Re: Crossing from North Cyprus to Republic from 1 Jan 2022

They are entitled to do that to UK citizens residing in the north, but it strikes me as very petty. Does the ROC impose restrictions on any other non EU countries nationals like this? Thats assuming they are already legal residents of the North. I suppose when this happens the Turkish authorities m...

There was a further update on the 18/12 regards new entry rules for those from the UK. VisitCyprus is currently showing the older requirements that were updated 15/12. Re: Husband reportedly kills wife to relieve her from pain

I agree totally with the comments regarding ending the pain and suffering for a loved one – But struggle to get my head around his wife of many years agreeing to be strangled – That seems an extremely harsh way to end the life of someone you have been with for so long – Why did he not give her the ...
