Pool Heating Season 21/22
Our pool heater has now not been on since last Monday. I promised a few people that I would post a resume of our pool heating season when we had finished with heating the pool. We put our pool cover back on last September and it kept our pool at least 4 degrees warmer than neighbour's pools. We put ...

Re: Mandria square rejuvenation completed
We think it is far better than it was before. There was a lack of parking and we often ended up parking on what was waste ground which is now a proper car park. The square can be utilised for events and the white lines are supposed to be for tavernas who wish to put extra tables out on the square. I...

Re: Mandria square rejuvenation completed
We went to the chippy tonight. Excellent meal and the batter on the fish was just the right thickness. I took some photos whilst we were walking from the car to the chippy. The original car park on the left was almost empty. A few local 4x4s were parked on the newly painted double yellow lines oppos...

Re: Save Electricity - small scale
Yes, those tariffs were done away with shortly after I posted. EAC said they had to do away with them due to EU rulings about simplifying tariffs. Two years later, we had our solar panels fitted.

Re: Net Metering. An Explanation
Some of the power you generate during the day does not go through the meter and you consume. For example, on 5th April, we produced 26.02 kwh. We exported 23.2 kwh. Therefore, the difference is the solar kwh we used, 2.82kwh. If we add that to what we used through the meter,3.4 kwh, it gives us the ...

Re: Electric Consumption Net Metering
Would love to know exactly how this 90% and factoring of 1.6 per kwh worked out in practice and what size system eac would allow for various past rates of consumption.

Re: Electric Consumption Net Metering
Really sorry to hear that. I've written an email to the Greenparty but had no reply. Just crazy when Cyprus are being fined for their huge use of fossil fuel for generating electricity. I suggested earlier, one way round this is to get a solar pump for your pool. Our developer fitted a 1.6kw pump as...

Electric Consumption Net Metering
I put this on the Paphos Chat Facebook page. A number of people found it interesting so I've posted it here. Our winter, January and February electricity bill is always the highest of the year. This year especially so, as it was one of the coldest on record. We have a 5kwh Photovoltaic system. Durin...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
I can’t believe that anyone would run their pool pump for 8 hours even in summer, I run ours for three hours per day all year round and the water is spot on and has been for the past 5 years. [/quote] We used to run ours for 2 hours in the winter and 5 hours in the summer. However, recommended level...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
In another post, I suggested one way round the EAC rules, if you own a house with a private pool, was to have a Lorenz Solar Pump fitted. There are people on here who have had them for over 10 years so they are super reliable. We have still got our old pump plumbed in and working which I use for bac...

Just read this on Steve's Eastern site. I have pasted the link but I couldn't get it to work. The full article is on the In Cyprus news website. Hope Dominic doesn't mind me putting it here. http://www.use-the-final-link/news/384588/government-plans-to-give-away-confiscated-alcohol-tobacco Governmen...

Net Metering. An Explanation
I put this up on the Pahos Life Facebook page. A lot of people found it very helpful. However, I know some members do not do facebook, so I will put it on here. I feel very sorry for those people who are now being told they can only have a certain sized system. I have already written one email, to t...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
I've emailed the Green Party. Yet to receive a reply, but will let everyone know if I do. It's appalling. I know people who offset their carbon footprint when flying by paying to have trees planted. Neighbours have had bigger systems than they actually need to try to do their bit and help generate e...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
Thanks Max. As you say, completely short sighted and not very green. I would think the EU would step in quickly to stop this. Don't they (EAC) realise that some people have extra panels to do their bit for the environment. Think there needs to be some lobbying of politicians done to make EAC change ...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
Totally agree Jeba. I am quite happy with the present system. Last March, after our accrued kwh were taken off our account on March 12th, we were soon back in credit. By the end of March we had 90kwh banked. This year, with the weather much colder, especially the nights, we are down, -170kwh, as we ...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
Our electric meter was read on 14th March. We only lost 100kwh from our banked units this year, as we used the pool heater liberally for the last two weeks before our meter was read. It would be more environment friendly if we could keep our accrued units, as we would not have continually heated our...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
Totally agree Wensbry. We had a 5kwh system fitted, plus later an ultra violet pool steriliser which, to be fully effective and to cut down significantly on chemical use, needed to be running for longer periods. One pool technician even suggested 12 hours a day. That would have eaten into our solar ...

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true
Neighbours have recently installed a 10kw system and have just been connected to the grid. Another neighbour had a 5kwh system installed in December and was connected to the grid at the end of January. Both systems installed with GreenAir. Neither would have been able to install such systems using t...

Re: Coronavirus: Cabinet approves fourth dose amid surge in cases (update 2)
We are still being very careful. Going shopping when the shops are quieter. Lidl today at 8am, just after the school children rush, followed by Alpha Mega. Still doing big shops, which we never used to do in Cyprus, so will not need to go again for a couple of weeks at least. Even if we were in the ...
