Re: EAC Accesss

No Ian, they don't don't leave a calling card (far too efficient for Cyprus!) And no, the wait with EAC is usually minimal...and they're always polite and helpful. If they send you an estimated bill they may also send you a separate automated letter (in Greek) chastising you for not making entry av...

Re: Wedding certificate apostille for residency

Can I take it then as long as it's just for the MEU1a then we can get this with just our normal wedding certificate NOT stamped, then when we apply for the MEU3a in a few years time it will need to be stamped? Sorry about this, I just need clarification. Thanks, Keith Keith I know a couple who rece...

Re: Wedding certificate apostille for residency

The yellow slip MEU1a is not residency. It is only registration that an EU national has arrived in Cyprus and proved he/she has the financial ability not to be a burden on the Cyprus state. Residency (for EU nationals) can only be acquired after 5 years continuous residence in Cyprus and proving tha...

Re: EAC Accesss

Dave, I know you want to to ask... what's a Purdika? Ian with your coffee shop pals, I would have thought you might have known that. The experts on hunting in Polemi are our beloved Muchtar and his brother Telemikos. Purdika is the "chukka Partridge" hunted (with dogs) in November and Dec...

Re: EAC Accesss

It's very Polemi to have electric gates and NOT use them Dave! Ian If we did that how would the hunters shoot the purdika in the garden. More than once we have come home to find a vehicle parked in our drive, the owner working in a field nearby. Thankfully we don't have to lock our doors most...

Ian
This is obviously to stop all your charity customers and the good people of Polemi dropping by for a coffee and a beer unannounced.

Having electric gates and using them, is so not Polemi. You won't get the free fruit/ vegetables and eggs, the locals will think you are Russian. :o

Re: Georgiades mulls mandatory use of plastic money at kebab shops, surgeries etc

JCC have a card processing cartel in Cyprus. Traders pay for the machine rental and a percentage of every transaction. Smaller traders pay a lot more than big business. In the UK traders can shop round - not here, they got you. Doctors will just put the extra on your bill and call it card processing...

Re: deposit return

When we first rented in Cyprus in 2008 for 6 months we paid the full amount up front (Naive) through Paphos Direct. Our Deposit was returned to us in full a month after we left, as we had left the property in excellent condition. We have since rented 3 times through Owners Direct (3 months rentals)...

Dave surely they aren't going to refund you more than you originally paid?

Jeanne
No they won't and in the case of a person who I have power of attorney for, the difference was €100 less.

............also if the deposit rate has gone up, you have to pay the new rate, but only get refunded the old rate. The bureaucracy at AEC is incredible and no one has any authority to take a decision, the rules being cast in tablets of stone. :o

Re: deposit return

That's personal to you though, I got the impression we were talking about Cyprus in general here not about you ;) ;) I understand Photolady, you could give your personal experience as a tenent (and you did), but you would rather landlords did not participate. Should read your own posts. Just not go...

Re: deposit return

Probably because by all accounts that anyone who wants your money are usually all sweetness and light at the time of signing the contact... Not this one, we turned down tenants for almost 2 years, because a bad tenant is much worse than no tenant. If we can't find the right people it stays empty. A...

Re: Private photo voltaic installations up 3.4% in 2016

Our electric bills for the past year were just under €1,200...and we haven't skimped on a/c and using the a/c units for heating this winter. So we would have to remain in the house for at least 4.5 years before we would start to see any financial advantage from a pv installation...and considerably ...

Re: deposit return

I know it is common to withhold the final months rent but it does not make it right. We have a rental and we charge 3 months in advance, if our tenants started withholding, they would be out there and then. This is however most unlikely because we have excellent tenants and I have no doubt of giving...

Re: Pack of dogs in Polemi

Unfortunately quite common on the Psathi side of Polemi. The dogs may have escaped or occasionally owners take the dogs to a fairly enclosed area and let them loose for a few hours or even over night. Then they try and collect them the next morning. The overnight barking can be very annoying. If tho...

Re: Gas fire

The first question would be "have you got a good flow of outside " air. The fires emit lots of carbon dioxide and water. If the combustion is not complete because there is not enough oxygen (fresh air) then they produce carbon monoxide - with is lethal. So these fires are designed to shut ...

Polemi Dave--Note your comments. We are due over permanently in 2 years, bang on the time, all will be up in the air.
