Re: CMail: a hybrid future

I think photo voltaic panels are a good idea. We have some on our bungalow and since installing them we have not had to pay for any electricity.. We just have to pay the standing charge every 2 months. Trev.. The high cost of the electricity from your roof is paid for, through the nose, by all the ...

Re: Brexit

In 1990, I had a sudden cardiac condition while in the USA and was rushed into a small hospital in NH. They called a cardiologist from a nearby city. He took one look at me and connected an external pacemaker within 30 minutes of arriving. He then asked how I would pay, and I replied that I wasn't s...

Re: Brexit

I think, therefore, that the Nigerian Govt should be billed for her NHS costs - assuming Nigeria was where she started her journey. If she started it in another country that country should be billed; because she should NOT have been allowed to fly so close to giving birth. It must have been obvious...

Re: Cost of using electricity to heat a living room

As I've been evoked, nothing really to add. A modern DC inverter aircon will give you up to ~4 kWh of heat for 1 kWh of electricity, but the heat is embedded in the airflow, not in direct convection or radiation.

Re: Idea

I was very impressed when I went to Switzerland and you could go into a restaurant and buy hot cheese by the melting slice. That was raclette, usually served with a hot spud. The best cheese for that is Bagnes, but it is usually too expensive and other cheeses from the Canton of Valais are more com...

There's no accounting for tastes; perhaps because you can't get good French cheeses here. My daughter brings us a real Reblochon on each visit; now THAT is a cheese! (There's no smilie for a strong smell!)

Re: Idea

A very creamy mild blue cheese from Denmark. Wikipedia says it is a mixture of Danish 'Brie' and Danish Blue, but I think it is a cheese in its own right.

You see how the threads change from restricting to 20 posts to obscure cheeses! :)

Idea

I'll throw this at you:
Should threads in forums be limited to a maximum of, say, 20 posts?

My idea is that longer threads almost always have moved away from the subject of the original message (often earlier!).

And while we are on the subject and closer to home, some find 'Cyp' mildly offensive, too. This is probably because it is mostly used by the less 'with it' sector of the British community here.

Because its connotations are similar to those of the 'N' word - it is offensive.

Chinks? How dare you use such an offensive and pejorative term?

If you needed 24 000 then, you still need 24 000, but you will pay less for electricity.

I think most do. I recently had the compressor of an LG unit render its soul after nearly 4 years. It took the techies four trips from Nicosia, but I was not asked for a penny.

Re: New Air Con/Heater Units

'Look out for 'inverter' units which are most efficient...' The Grump has hit the nail on the head; with modern inverters, you get about 4 times as much heat for a given electricity consumption as you would from any other type of electric heating.

2 new pipelines to bring more CO2-producing oil to the US.

Worse, one of them crosses Native-American sacred land, which will be desecrated.

What is Trump playing at?
