Re: Arguments between various EU countries

Agreed, Individual citizens Bank accounts had money taken out of them.Trev. Explained by jeba. Citizens accounts in banks not subject to bankruptcy were unaffected. We were with Hellenic and didn't lose a penny. Correct me if I'm wrong, but only people with more than €100k in BoC were affected? And...

Re: Arguments between various EU countries

This article tries to explain what happened.. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2013/03/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-cyprus-bank-disaster/274096/ I have my doubts whether that is an accurate description of what happened. As far as I remember it wasn´t Germany alone who came up w...

Re: Arguments between various EU countries

How was this done technically? Did they pass a law confiscating funds irrespective of whether the respective bank was solvent or not?

Re: British Pound slowly strengthening

What seems to be a strengthening pound is more a case of a weakening €. If you check the exchange rate versus US$ you´ll hardly see a change (but a falling €).

Re: Arguments between various EU countries

I don't expect it to raid the bank accounts of its Citizens.... Correct me if I´m wrong, but as far as I remember it wasn´t a case of citizen´s money being raided but rather a case of bankrupcy and creditors having to take a haircut as nobody wanted to bail the banks out (or at least not all of the...

Re: Solar Car Battery Charger

Thank you all for the good advice. I should have explained in my first post that we are in Paphos at the moment, and there is insufficient time to get something ordered online before we return home soon. I will explore the suggestion made by Max to see whether I can get things sorted here before we...

Re: Medical Insurance Cost

So basically I can get insurance but would not be covered for anything relating to a stroke. However under the company we are considering if I do not need any treatment that is stroke related after two years I will be covered Isn't that a bit riskful? What if they claim a treatment to have been str...

Re: Cyprus Medical System

That's interesting.... I worked with a German guy from 2009 until I left last April 2016 and I recall him having to relinquish his residency (or sign himself out) in Germany sometime after he started living in Cyprus. It seemed very strange to me but maybe the reason you outline above is why? I dou...

Re: Cyprus Medical System

You might want to check whether it´s desirable to be a member of the Cypriot medical system as it may mean that you cannot hope for any funding by your home country if you use a private hospital or doctor. I have no idea about how it is for Brits, but my German statuatory health insurance covers me ...

Paphos gyms

Is there a gym in Paphos which has a pool heated to at least 29 °C and at least 25 m long (like e. g. the "Totalfit" in Larnaca)?
