You will have been signed up to Google + automatically if you have a GMail acoount. Google + is being withdrawn. If you have not used it, you can just ignore the email.

Some people did use it. Those people will want to copy data they have posted on there (photos etc) if they still want to keep it.

It is nothing to do with gmail though. That is unaffected.

They are shutting down Google +. It went the same way as google's previous dip into social media. Who remembers Google Wave?
