Re: Today's walk

And the final picture I got before someone walked underneath them, completely oblivious to the fact they were there. P1020854.jpg Good to see lifeguards receiving first aid training before the season starts. Hopefully they will never need to put into practise their training. P1020858.jpg P1020859.jp...

Re: Today's walk

Another beach being prepared for the season. P1020842.jpg Even though the temperature was only 17c and a low 15c when I started my walk, people were making the most of the sun. P1020846.jpg The seaweed usually ends up in a field in Geroskipou. However, some today was being dumped near to the Imperia...

Today's walk

Went out this morning as we had various tradespeople visiting this afternoon. Immersion heater went bang last week, water ingress in switch on tank and switch in house, and a suspected leak in the swimming pool. My pet subject, clearing seaweed from the beaches. The beach next to Penelope's Church i...

Re: Land between Phaethon Beach Hotel and the church

A bit of activity on this land today. I have noticed that further trenches have been dug and was thinking that the archaeologists were digging very quickly. Today's photos.

We had a pair sitting on our wires on Saturday. They were here this time last year but it was far milder then.

Re: Anyone remember these at Paphos airport?

Fantastic picture. I spotted a pair of eagrets in this area last winter. However, Have not been out on my bike yet as many of the tracks are flooded.

Re: Down at the harbour

Sunday is the day the locals go down to the harbour, so temps of 20c means it is still winter. One Easter, when it was around 25c, a doctor told one of our neighbours he should have a vest and jumper on, to keep his chest warm. The picture I posted was taken on 3rd February when the temperature was ...

Re: Down at the harbour

I went out for my walk this afternoon. Black clouds above the mountains but a clear blue sky on the coast.Only did a couple of miles. Temp around 16c and thankfully the wind had dropped since yesterday. No pics, sorry, for today, but a fortnight ago we were enjoying temperatures above 20c. IMG_20190...

Re: What a difference a fortnight makes

I went late afternoon for my walk. Immersion heater went bang last night. Water ingress in switch on roof and also moisture in switch in hall after all the heavy rain, so had to sort out this morning. Much calmer, but still cold for Cyprus Only 15c but again felt warm in the sun. Got another week he...

Re: Lawrence the Busker

It was the policeman who told me he had a carer. When he was arrested they checked on his living arrangements. He also told me that they regularly checked up on him.

Re: Lawrence the Busker

I last saw him at the beginning of December, before we went back to the UK. He was at the bottom of the ramp by the Alexander the Great Hotel,in his usual place. Unfortunately, he was doing more sleeping than singing. The policeman said he had died about four weeks ago. The police used to keep an ey...

Re: What a difference a fortnight makes

Good value on the Daily Deal with 50% off. I had the prawn cocktail and the smoked salmon tagliatelle. Both very nice and the bill was only €36 for three starters, three mains, half a carafe of wine and a pint of Keo.

Lawrence the Busker

I had not seen Mr Lawrence out and about so I asked one of the policemen down at the harbour if they knew where he was. I was told that unfortunately he had passed away. I used to stop and talk to him. He had a good memory of things that had happened in the past and could name the Aldershot teams fr...

A few people about at the harbour. IMG_20190216_152241187_HDR.jpg IMG_20190216_160645321_HDR.jpg Unfortunately, Stavros's kiosk was closed so I could not even have a latte. However, I had enjoyed an invigorating walk in the strong wind, and on the way back my coat came off. Going out tonight to Rimi...

What a difference a fortnight makes

We were very lucky with the weather when we arrived in Cyprus at the end of January. We had missed the heavy and almost constant rain that you had for most of the month. There were a few nights when we did not need heat on the house, as the temp had got up to 20c with the doors and windows open. Thi...

Have not got a discount card but always get 10% off the bill, which basically pays for the tip. We always go when we have visitors.

Re: Gordon Banks, England goalkeeper. RIP

Liverpool always struggled against Leicester when he was in goal. The kop always clapped him, and other opposing goalkeepers, andalso sang, he's the best goalie in the world. All the heroes from my childhood seem to be passing away. Read this week that Ian Ross, who played for Liverpool in the 60s h...

Those must have been the clouds over us in Anarita. We had a downpour and a few loud thunderclaps. Now going to the chippie in Mandria. Hope it keeps dry.

Re: Land between Phaethon Beach Hotel and the church

Hope this land is not going to be used for a tipping place for builders rubble. A solid fence was being erected by the roadside between the hotel and the church. It blew down in yesterdays high winds. However, when I drove past yesterday a concrete mixer wagon was being rinsed out and depositing the...

Re: Land between Phaethon Beach Hotel and the church

Yes you can continue walking past the chapel, but not straight across like you used to, but round the coastal path bit, which is the way I always walk anyway. There were supposed to be plans for the coastal path to continue, as a made up proper path to Geroskipou beach. I suppose there will be a tim...
