Re: Tourism'?s 2020 focus on new markets, Perdios says

Who (except you) mentioned anything about yobbos? What I meant was that Cyprus’s wish to attract more tourists from hitherto not targeted countries may result in even more charter flights coming to Paphos. Paphos is a much smaller airport than Larnaca and its very busy now, winter and especially in ...

Re: Tourism'?s 2020 focus on new markets, Perdios says

The new Ministry approach to tourism sounds much better than the way tourism was previosly handled by the old Cyprus tourism set up, the CTA. But I wonder if anyone in the Interior Ministry is thinking about expanding the size of Paphos Airport? On each occasion I have used the airport this year it ...

I also hope that the case against her will be dropped and that she will be allowed to go home with her parents. From what I’ve read the police have treated her very badly, People commit much worse misdemeanors here and seem to get away with their actions. The whole affair must have created much adver...

Re: MRI scanner..

Jeba, what you said is true. It can be useful to ask for a Dexa bone scan, for example, if one has had a low bone density previously. Or an x-ray if there is a reason. But normally people would see a doctor first who would decide whether a patient needs this for diagnostic purposes and if so what ty...

Re: MRI scanner..

Sorry, Trev, MRI scans are’t cheap! They are very expensive to buy and need a specially trained operator. Paphos is fortunate to have several scanners so waiting time to have one done is minimal. You can also self refer for most types of scans and x -rays here, unlike in the UK or other European cou...

Or it could be easier to build them yourself, using either building blocks or bricks or stone as the retaining wall for the flower bed.
There are a number of builders yards around Paphos.

Re: End of an EU era

Now Boris is making a point of telling everyone that he intends to leave the EU by the end of 2020. This despite the EU saying that it would take longer than that to agree a proper trade deal. I hope Boris will see the sense of waiting for this, but I suspect that he would go for a no deal brexit if...

Re: Are you an expat or an immigrant?

I think of myself as an expat, though like many others I was also classed as an alien by virtue of possessing ‘the little brown Alien Book’. Since then I’ve assembled a collection of pink and yellow slips, and also have a Cyprus ID card. But I might move on or back in the future. Still undecided.

Re: End of an EU era

Why don’t you ask the Labour and Immigration Depts? I doubt if anyone else can give an answer to this at present.Though I wouldn’t be surprised if wealthy Russians may be able to find ways. I’ve also noticed that when foreign Oligarchs want to start a big development project in Cyprus they seem to b...

Re: Exchange rate looking better today anyway.

No, I am uneasy about our country becoming dependent on the USA which is as a consequence of leaving the EU without a full deal including trade deals with other countries being in place.

Re: End of an EU era

Yes, the situation was difficult then, with the result that few Brits were owning (part owning) a business in Cyprus prior to Cyprus joining the EU and having to adopt EU laws. In fact anything which involved the Immigration Dept could be difficult. Not a scare story but was a fact. Lets see what ha...

Re: Exchange rate looking better today anyway.

I expect that exchange rates sterling v euro won’t be stable for a while. Now Brexit is being done (whether or not one wanted it) there is so much that needs to be done to prepare the country for such a speedy exit from the EU. So we’ll have to wait and see what happens.Mr Trump seems to be very imp...

Re: End of an EU era

Yes, Devil. Like you I was here for several years (in my case) before Cyprus joined the EU. I remember then that any Brit wanting to set up a company or any business needed a Cypriot partner, active or sleeping, This put off a number of our countrymen from either coming to live in CY and if someone ...

Re: Paphos court acquits Rottweiler owner of manslaughter

Dominic and WHL, I think that your comments about me were unjust. I am not the only one who found the statement both incomplete ( in as much as if it was a translation from the Greek) and confusing. It wasn’t clear what had happened. I also agree with Trans Am that a pathologist who can’t tell the d...

Re: Is the flu jab still available at the General?

Flu vaccine has been in short supply this year. It has been difficult getting a jab. Even the GH is often out of stock pending arrival of another batch. I had my jab there last month, but had to wait for it, having made an appt first. You need to go there and find out if they have any vaccine left. ...

Re: Paphos court acquits Rottweiler owner of manslaughter

I am left wondering whether had the poor woman concerned been a local Cypriot , would this case have been handled better? Was the police investigation thorough enough if the defence were able suggest that the poor lady wasn’t mauled by the dogs? Has the owner of the dogs been prosecuted if these dog...
