Re: Armou

Armou is a pleasant, quiet, hill side village about 3km from Paphos. You reach it from the roundabout at the end of the motorway. A good road, steep initially, leads there. On the way you pass through Konia. Armou is higher up and to the left hand side of the road, it is clearly signposted.

Re: Tourism season means increased crime

Yioula, you are right! Holiday makers and particularly those renting accommodation should take care of their possessions. Always make sure all windows are properly secure and all external doors are locked, before leaving the property, especially in the evening. Don’t forget to include bathroom windo...

Re: Wooden Fences

Where I lived previously, in Kamares, we were told fences at 2m. is max height. It’s always best to get agreement from your neighbours, before building a fence. If you erected the wooden fence in question, is it within the boundary of your lot? Do you have title deeds? If your answer to these questi...

Re: Spate of burglaries In Pahos & Peyia

There is more crime in Cyprus than when I first arrived nearly 20 yrs ago. In that time as in UK and most other countries things don’t stand still. Cyprus is drawing people to live here from all over the world. Even now crime figures are much lower here than in many other countries. It is very impor...

Re: Victims of Pissouri Landslide were "shocked into silence" at House committee meeting

Just typical, unfortunately, of a government which tends to slope shoulders (figuratively speaking) to avoid taking the blame when things go wrong. It’s so wrong when people are losing their homes through no fault of their own. Caveat emptor for all those foreigners who seek to put their life saving...

Re: Bank Holiday Monday

I checked with staff in both Kollios and Garden of Eden yesterday, both shops will be open on Monday at least in the morning. I guess that whether shops open or not must be left up to the Owners/Managers. But I think that this applies to Cypriot businesses. Not sure about businesses belonging to for...

A case as bad as this one deserves capitol punishment. Pity that it was abolished.
Life imprisonment may not last for life.

Re: Please recommend a notary for the writing of a will

Hamski, as has been said Cyprus is not the UK and has different laws regarding inheritance and inheritance tax and probate here is a long, drawn out procedure. It’s very sensible to get a good Cyprus solicitor to advise according to your own circumstances when drawing up your will. It could save you...

Re: Maronas Time Warp

Well with the Mosque, Maronas must have been a TC occupied farming village before 1974. Often these villages suffered worse damage as the village may have been attacked and damaged. The occupants may have been killed or fled. Thus some villages were abandoned. Later some GC farmers used empty houses...

Re: Death on Cyprus - urban roads three times higher than EU average

Some people still don’t seem to understand lane discipline on the roundabouts.. I reckon that its a free for all with virtually no one indicating, so I wait for a safe gap in the traffic and try to keep an eye on what the drivers around me are doing. I always use my indicators too what ever others a...

Agree with Jim’s comments. Lack of signals and jumping traffic lights on red, pulling out or diving into lanes without warning, must contribute to this... And of course driving around with mobile clamped to ear....

Re: Help for some Pissouri homeowners but no compensation says minister

Shabby treatment from the CY Govt which is still trying to evade any responsibility for giving permission for houses to be built in an area known to be unstable. By offering something to a percentage of the home owners faced with the destruction of their homes, CY Govt including the dept responsible...

Thanks for this info Max. I am living on a complex now, albeit with my own roof space. I wonder if anyone on a complex has done this before?

Re: Traffic offences in May topped 25,000

I’m glad that the police are doing something to punish offenders when they’re caught. But why haven’t the speed cameras arrived? At one time they were supposed to have been ordered, I thought. When there are speed cameras at the traffic lights, as well as at accident black spots, the common practice...

Max,
I didn’t know about this. Could you give me a rough idea of overall costs for a smaller system
As well as a suggestion of which company to provide it. My previous installer was Larnaca based.
Thanks for any suggestions.

As has been said by others, this bunch of Tory hopefuls don’t inspire me with either their commitment to serve and get the best deal for GB, or their leadership potential. I hope that Boris doesn’t win by default. Its a dreary campaign as far as I can see, Whatever MP’s thought of Theresa May, I sti...

Re: Electricity prices to rise by more than 5% in June

When I was living in Kamares I had a 3kwh system installed, which caused an immediate drop in my electricity charges thereafter. Since I moved house to be closer to Paphos, I no longer have PV panels. Yes, even though I now have a much smaller house, without a PV system, I was surprised how much my ...

Re: Short hotel breaks

Yes, mini breaks and special deals are usually better out of the main tourist season. As Flossie said, August is peak season usually and July and September are also usually busy for the hotels. Though some Cypriots also head for the mountain resorts in August to escape the heat.
