There is a rumour, with no evidence I can find, that this area contained an airdrome when under British rule.
On this screenshot of 1963 it looks like there was an airfield in the 50's just one km more South....

All about Kleftiko....

I thought I will share this article with you as it is very different to the usual ones concerning wild fires, drought, Polis highway delay... I am not a big meat eater, never was, but a nice tender Kleftiko, cooked nearly half day in the outdoor oven with lovely potatoes I have enjoyed many times, m...

Re: EXTREME HEAT

The first drop in nighttime temperature already happened last night. I could open doors and windows just before sunrise as the temperature was back to only 25,5c instead of 33c the morning before. With a strong fan I could shift some of the hot indoor air outdoors, before closing everything again at...

Re: Electricity supply sufficient thanks to installed PV modules

When I drive down from Amageti to Agia Vavara I regularly see the wind turbines not turning at all. They would do better pulling them out and putting a solar farm there. For very low wind speed less than 4m/s, there are options that the rotor blades start moving and reaching the cut-in point (were ...

Re: Cost of electric bills for PV owners to increase by 16%+

There has been a lot of noise in the press about the rise in the tariffs charged by the EAC for electric use. We were told at the end of the saga that the tariffs would increase by about 3%. But if you look at the revised tariffs from 1 July as published on the EAC website you will see that the onl...

Re: Electricity supply sufficient thanks to installed PV modules

With more building of skyscrapers and hotels like the new Hugh one in Latchi were are they getting the extra electricity from? Beside that, Desalination plants in CY need a lot of electricity to run. If there is no good winter rain this year they have to built even more of them. At the moment CY ha...

Re: Electricity supply sufficient thanks to installed PV modules

Something that should be expanded. Last September I took a friend to the German Medical institute near Limassol. To my surprise over 90 percent of the car parking has solar panels fitted, putting cars in the shade. Take a look on google earth and you will see what I mean. No need to go to Limassol ...

Electricity supply sufficient thanks to installed PV modules

Interesting figures today in the press that electricity supply if sufficient in that heat wave we actually have. Here part of the article: "The TSO had said earlier that as of midday, the country’s electricity demand was 1,002 megawatts, and that this was covered by 513 megawatts of production ...

Probably the most devastading wild fire in Cyprus (vid)

Sad videos appear now from the terrible wild fire in the Limassol district yesterday. One of them showing the "village" of Souni, where a lot of lovely houses are now destroyed. I fear that Dominic's favourite Maximos Ranch, which i was also visiting several times is also gone.... :( It is...

Max, did the one near you start at the rubbish dump near Agia Varvara? That goes up on a fairly frequent basis. Yes exactly, many times bad smell from burned plastic or so is in my area when the wind comes from the direction of the rubbish dump there. Some more statement from the local press here: ...

New respect for Theo's Restaurant! Indeed, 63 years in the same building, i am sure they must have the hang of it now. 8-) Yes, the Gov. website from 1963 shows Theo's Restaurant was already there with very few other buildings at the harbour area and no mosaics yet.... https://up.picr.de/49860042ju...

Just to remember Paphos Harbour 1974...

Today, 51 years ago, was the Turkish invasion.

Here a short video, just to remember how Paphos harbour was looking after bomb attacks 1974.

Thanks to Dominic's many harbour videos we all know how beautiful the area is nowadays....

Re: Corallia Beach Walk

For me this beach looks more tidy then Coral Bay beach you filmed the other day, due to the underground spring which delivers still water in summer. I was there with my first wife just after the 1974 war and we were sunbathing in a inflatable dinghy without any clothes on as there was no building ye...
