Why not buy the ebook for € 18
For a recipe book, I prefer paper versions because my screen saver comes on at inopportune moments! 🤭😀

And on-line banking, certainly for former Co-op account holders, will be offline too, until late morning 16 Sept.

Hornets are much less irascible than wasps - possibly because they are so much bigger?

I am told their sting is really venomous too and best avoided.
Yes, I understand that too, Lloyd. Fortunately, they seem less keen to use it than wasps...

Re: Not many wasps around for bee-eaters....

When you scoop out the floating insects, try to always empty the net in the same place. That way, the little lizards and skinks soon learn where their food delivery is! Then your dead insects are not wasted at all. 😀 I like that idea, thanks Kay! My little lizard who lives in rocks near where I emp...

Re: Not many wasps around for bee-eaters....

Lovely phots, as usual, thank you Max. I was sure there was a wasp nest nearby, due to the number of wasps in my pool - which was worrying because my swimming buddy is allergic to their stings. However, with so many fields and scrubland in this valley, not much hope of finding it. Unlike ants, they ...

Lost a budgerigar?

Anybody lost a very vivid green budgie? One was seen at a neighbour's yesterday (to comments of "what are you on?"!) and now he's just visited me. Not particularly afraid, but wouldn't let me get close enough to catch him.

Re: Attempted Break In!

Nine years ago we used Dimitris Tsiakolis to install an alarm on our shop. It was a fairly basic system, with movement sensors inside and a very loud alarm if triggered, connected to our basic non-smart mobile so we could listen to what was happening in the shop once the alarm had rung. I am sure th...

Re: Handing over your home to a family member in Cyprus.

Jim, when Dave was diagnosed with imminently terminal cancer in 2017, our lawyer pulled out all the stops and had the property deeds transferred from joint names to my sole name. The Land Registry acted very quickly, and as it was a spouse-to-spouse transfer, there were no transfer fees. I understan...

Re: Death on Cyprus - urban roads three times higher than EU average

I agree with you entirely, Ian, but having been stopped once, I am not going to push my luck! I even managed to keep to 50kph (mostly) going down past Pykni from Kathikas to Pegeia. The disgruntled look on the copper's face as I ambled past had to be seen to be believed!

Re: Polemi water pressure

If you find the pressure is too low most of the time, either ask Nikki in the village office if the pressure can be increased, or get a pump installed to pressurise your own system - just make sure all pipework is up to being under pressure! 🙂

Re: Leather belt

If you cannot find a shop to sell you the buckle, you could haunt the various charity shops in case they have either a belt or a handbag with suitable buckle. Then all you will need is a cobbler to attach buckle to belt.

Re: Jam Roly-Poly Pudding

I simply use a large saucepan, two mugs for measuring, and a long handled wooden spoon! My recipe cooks in 10-20 minutes. It actually takes far longer to chop and destone the fruit than it does to turn it into jam. I agree with you, the Bonne Maman jams are good, but I also like the Duerr's Ginger m...

We saw it as we were driving from Oniros to the harbour. Reminded me of when the Orion rig ran aground off Guernsey in the seventies. Amazing sight, both of them.
