The area near me had no electricity for 21+ hours due to a telegraph pole collapsing and cutting off the supply - literally held up by the cables!

Indeed, as the cost of living goes up so rapidly it does become more difficult for those of us on a limited income.

Re: Survive on 1,000euros a week in Cyprus?

Most couples I know have a UK state pension and/or a private pension (or in some cases 2-3) and they are very comfortable with an income of €2,500 - €4,000 per month and most of them pay rent.
Others are content with living on the UK state pension.
Depends on lifestyle choices.

Re: Winter time starts tomorrow, as we go back an hour.

I just wish that the time was left at GMT. The reason for British Summer Time is no longer needed. 'The EU policy aims, as noted, to secure an additional hour of daylight during winter, both for pupils and employees'. Especially as the school day and working day starts so early in the morning here ...

It is getting a bit rough in Lebanon. Iran joining in. Gives this a different angle. I agree and with so many other conflicts in other areas it is worth taking a look at the bigger picture: 'Amidst the numerous conflicts unfolding in 2024, the pressing question on everyone's mind is: What countries...

Surprised at how many people I know whose mobile phone is not connected to the internet 24/7. Even a few who don't even have a mobile (not even the trusty Nokia). Not as if they are with someone all the time who does have internet access. I can only advise them to carry some form of ID with a phone ...

Have been using Currency Solutions for over 15yrs. Very efficient service + competitive rates. Think you need a reliable broker when exchanging currency. When I moved to a more rural area I visited the nearest hospital and spoke to the Medical Director about various emergency scenarios because I have a very limited time to get medical help should I have an episode of anaphylactic shock - the main worry being how to find me when at home! He told me to...

Only likely to escalate if the daily incursions continue, thus postponing the necessary negotiations to work towards a peaceful outcome.

Can you buy cooked fish in Paphos and if so where from ? Check the hot food counters at Alphamega, Papantoniou in town as I have seen fish of different types at both. Maybe Sklavenitis also has fish now it also sells hot food to take away. The mashed potato at Alphamega is also worth checking out!

Yes, some residents of mountain villages still receive it, I believe if over 600m’s. Is this not a cypriot grant rather then a UK one? A link to a previous post on Paphos Life raises the question if the Cypriot winter fuel allowance is now only paid to EU nationals? https://www.paphoslife.com/forum...
