Re: Low water this morning at Paphos harbour...
Can't help but speculate on how many millenia Cypriots, Greeks, Spanish and Italian folk have been frying food in Olive Oil. I don't know about the Greeks, Spaniards or Italians but I do know that Cypriots have not used much olive oil for frying, in the past. Until relatively recently, most of thei...

Re: Cyprus,,a Greek island?
...... And the first country to let vaccinated Brits in without restriction from 1 May is..... Cyprus👍👏 And I hope that we will not regret it. We still do not know whether vaccinated persons will be 100 percent non-infective. Perhaps, even on their clothing if they had hugged someone goodbye at the...

Re: Atrocious Italian/ EU behaviour
In my opinion, I think what Italy has done is 100% correct, Europe has much, much more need for the vaccine, where as Australia has very low cases and deaths from covid. You are absolutely correct! Italy, of all EU countries, has need of these vaccines and most urgently. I believe that some of you ...

Re: Low water this morning at Paphos harbour...
You shouldn't use olive oil for frying whether deep or shallow. it starts to decompose at temperatures as low as 130 to 140° C, into some toxics. We use peanut oil because it is the most thermally stable oil of all the common edible oils. Much less risk of ingesting toxic compounds, although more ri...

Six years lifetime? We have our CY£22 conventional pro chip pan for at least 15 years and, filled with peanut oil, produces the best crisp chips possible in just three or four minutes.

Re: Low water this morning at Paphos harbour...
It has everything to do with tides. As you may be aware if there is a Full Moon then that means there will be what is called. A Low Low tide followed by a High High tide. Very useful to sailors entering difficult anchorages. If Cyprus were on the ocean, I would agree with you that tides c...

Last night, in the middle of "University Challenge", I got in the middle of the screen a copyright notice, lasting about five seconds. This was the first time I have seen this. That was on BBC2.

Re: Cyprus,,a Greek island?
I haven't got the time just now to seek out chapter and verse but the first humans on the island date from about 12,000 BCE. This was the earliest date when Palaeolithic man had the know-how to sail across. The numbers were very small until about 9 to 10,000 BCE, when Mesolithic man came from what i...

Re: Newspapers
You may be right that, if they are printed here, the price is the same. However, the cost of printing a few tens of thousands in Cyprus, if that be the case, must be ginormous per copy, compared with a few million in the UK!

Re: Cyprus,,a Greek island?
It is not so much that Cyprus is a 'Greek island' that annoys me a little, it is the belittling of Cyprus by the use of the Greek flag in preference to its own. This is a national issue. As far as the Greek language is concerned, that is a non-issue because the Cypriot dialect tends to predominate. ...

Ideally compost them; the plants and weeds are ideally suitable. OTOH, any woody branches will require finally chopping before allowing them to rot.

I can see several dogs and the man is way back along the path. He is wearing black trousers and a light-coloured top and may have another black dog next to him.

Re: The Joy of brexit
It is probable that Jackie is right; the E121 form has not been superseded by the S1. I have the E121, issued just a few months ago to replace my former one. It would seem that the Cypriot authorities look on it with grave suspicion! I suspect the reason is that my health insurance is managed by the...
