^^^ Thank you. An extended holiday let is probably what I’m looking for anyway.

Winter lets approx. 1 month?

Morning everyone Next winter I am thinking of doing my usual Christmas and New Year fortnight in a hotel, but then delaying my return flight and renting a studio until around early February. Take a laptop, rent a small car and have a few weeks walking, exploring and writing. I’ve been to a lot of pl...

Re: “Home” for Christmas!

Christmas Eve we went up to Fabrica Hill, and on Christmas Day, after Mass at Ágia Kyriakí, lunch at Muse. My favourite, black linguine langoustines!

Re: “Home” for Christmas!

Enjoyed a great few days since the weather improved. On Saturday we went to Lofou (very pretty) and Agros with its Christmas market, then on to the Symposio in Pelendri for a great meze lunch,

It’s been quite nice today apart from the wind. Explored the coast path round to Lighthouse Beach, pretty impressive.

Going up to Costa’s at Gieroskipou tonight.

I’ve really enjoyed Dominic’s videos and photo tours, and been delighted with the developments. Went to see the goddess this morning before getting supplies in Paps. So pleased with her new location.

“Home” for Christmas!

Kalimera! 8-)

Flew in from Stansted last night for my usual 2 weeks at the Aquamare. I requested my favourite room, top floor on the end with a 270° view. Happy!

Re: Mis-heard Xmas song lyrics

Apparently Jesus had a teddy bear. My late mother reminded me for nearly 60 years that when I was very tiny I sang “Away in a Manger” as:

“The little Lord Jesus lay down with sweet Ted.”

Looks fabulous. I might try that if the weather's good. Do you need a car to get to the start or is it close to a bus route? Thanks.

Thank you. Looks like quite a few venues are holding carols. The one by the public baths on Christmas Eve could be good.

Re: What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

^^^ Not that it matters a great deal, but I was certainly more interested in whether or not expats living in Cyprus still do the traditional UK things at Christmas. E.g. My Christmas lunch last year was fish soup, garlic prawns and black linguine, and a white chocolate and almond crêpe at Muse. I ma...

Re: What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

During the day I will visit some of the larger hotels and look at their festive decorations. PM if you’re visiting the Aquamare after the 21st - I’ll stand you a coffee if I’m around! Just in case nobody has noticed, Christmas has a real meaning; it is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It has nothin...

Re: What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

We celebrate exactly the same as we would in the UK. The only difference is we are less likely to get sick of the whole affair by December 2nd because we won't have been inundatated by it for a month on the high streets already. Oh and we don't get carol singers. But Die Hard and Love Actually are ...

What do you expats/residents do at Christmas?

Just curious really. I spend a couple of weeks in a nice hotel getting cosseted. On Christmas Eve we will have a big gala dinner, the following morning there will be champagne breakfast, a few of us will probably walk into Kato Paphos and go to the midday mass at Agía Kyriakí. We normally have a lat...

Re: Agia Kyriaki Chrysopolitissa

The Church was handed over by Bishop George of Paphos (now Archbishop) to the Catholic Parish, who in turn granted access to the Anglican Church. It’s lovely to be able to go there for the 12.00 Mass in English on Christmas Day (they also have the Mass at 10.00 in Latin and 11.00 in Polish). Such a...

Storms

A post Dominic made on Facebook about storms made me think of this. Was anyone in Kato on Christmas Day 2019? We knew this one was brewing on Christmas Eve, but we were snug in the hotel enjoying a big gala dinner. Walked in the following morning, and the area around the Almyra on the Broadwalk was ...

Re: John Lewis 2023 Christmas Advert

The joys of holidaying in Cyprus at this time of year - Christmas isn't rammed down our throats as soon as the Halloween razzamatazz is over! Couldn’t agree more. Can’t wait to fly out on 20th December. I’ve got to suffer the same old rubbish songs in every shop until then. Still, lovely hotel, gre...
