Re: Danger of coronavirus
The UK, along with the US, have taken Political decisions on Covid19 - rather than Medical. We are more interested in Economic impact, than medical and moral impact.! Forgive me, Jim, returning to your excellent post of a couple of days' ago. Reading in the American press this morning, a couple of ...

Re: Danger of coronavirus
Agree. Just read 189 died in Italy yesterday. That's the road the UK is on. Boris is simply out of his depth. Following the lead of his hero, Donald. Hoping it will just - go away. Regarding closing schools, I can't believe the "science" he is espousing. If the children infect each other, ...

Re: Danger of coronavirus
Thank you. Just read that the Czech Republic has blocked entry to people from 15 countries. Including the UK. Cyprus needs to do the same. And the Canadian PM has just gone into self-isolation - after his wife returned feeling unwell after returning from... you guessed it - the UK. As for the delay ...

Re: Danger of coronavirus
The UK, along with the US, have taken Political decisions on Covid19 - rather than Medical. We are more interested in Economic impact, than medical and moral impact. So, we downgrade it, we limit testing, we do nothing to support individuals that may have no pay and have to live on SSP - while Irel...

Re: Today's Ride
From what I have been told, in various bike shops, Cyprus has adopted EU Law for pedelecs. My bike is legal to ride as the motor cuts out at 15mph or 25kmph. I believe this to be correct also. I bought almost the identical bike - but the Tchibo for 600. Very happy with it. This is the latest I have...

Re: Blesssing of the waters goes ahead despite rain and cold
I just took a walk down to the harbour. It was really wild there about an hour ago. Really strong winds by the castle. Not a lot of people about. But nice fresh air, in my opinion. Forgot to mention - just managed to see, through the wind and rain, an Easyjet plane heading in to the airport. That wo...

Re: Jacob Rees-Mogg - a Gilbert and Sullivan parody
Ah... that has made my day... despite going out to Panagia today and picking 5 kg of grapes, as well as getting some wine from the Monastery there. Ah... the Rees-Mogg - or as quoted in Wikipedia, the "Honourable Member for the 18th century".
Thank you, indeed, Mr Hic.

Re: E bike or Push bike
Thanks. MM. I eventually bought a new electic bike. From a shop near Electroline on the Apostle Paul road, up from the mall. Very happy with it. They had it on sale at half-price. The main shop is actually in Limassol. Thanks again.

E bike or Push bike - bought
E bike or Push bike for medium sized people. (Say 1.60 - 1.80 m. Weight around 50-70 kg. ) Re e-bikes, I looked at Paphos E-bikes, but quite pricey. Also a place in Limassol seems not bad. But would also consider a normal 2nd hand push bike. To get to the bowls club. )) I went to the bike shops in Y...

Re: Cyprus population up +13.4% in 2018, fourth highest rise in EU
The original headline has been misquoted by several sources. It is actually 13.4 per 1000. Written as o/oo . So a 1.34 percent increase. 864,200 on January 1 2018, rising to 875,900 in 2019. Actually I get 1.0135 (so a 1.35% increase) for 8759/8642, but they've probably made some adjustment, or I've...

Re: Unidentified object crashes in north Cyprus, no casualties
I don't think this is being exaggerated by the press to any major degree, what do you expect them to do, play it down incase it disrupts tourism? Indeed. Imagine being on the Vienna flight to Larnaca, which normally lands about 1 am, and seeing a Sam-200 missile flying past the window. Would make s...

Re: Unidentified object crashes in north Cyprus, no casualties
Apparently designed to explode mid-air. Quoting here “Right now, we can’t be absolute, but from the pictures and the inscriptions it appears to be an S-200,” said Zenonas Tziarras of the Geopolitical Cyprus thinktank. Those missiles were designed to explode in midair if they do not hit a target, he ...

Cypriot serial killer given seven life sentences
The sentence, passed on Monday, is the toughest ever imposed by the Cypriot justice system. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/24/cypriot-army-captain-police-officials-search-for-possible-bodies-of-victims-of-the-suspected-serial-killer-nikos-metaxas-metaxas-pleads-guilty-to-killing-five-wom...

Re: Rory Stewart gets the Hedgehog Vote
I'm amazed you can still put a bet on Boris to win. Sky bet have the following odds
Boris Johnson
1/12
Jeremy Hunt
12/1
Michael Gove
16/1
Still better than bank interest rates.
