Re: Free healthcare comes at a price

With regards to funding, the government are the ones that have done their sums and said 4% will pay for the treatment for patients... That´s what I don´t believe. E. g. the cost of the German healthcare system amounts to 12% of GDP. If I remember correctly that number is 9% for the UK. How can 4% o...

Where I´m from there is photovoltac installation mounted on a revolvable basis which follows the sun, driven by an old church-clockwork. I wonder why that´s not standard everywhere (ok, doesn´t have to be church-clockwork).

Now that you have posted about it, I remember that the contributions are going up next year to pay for the inpatient treatment
If I remember correctly it will rise to less than 4% of your income. I highly doubt that will be enough to provide for a decent level of health care.

In 2020 you file for the 2019 tax year.
Thanks. Do you happen to know whether you need to file even if you´re non-domiciled and haven´t joined GESY?

''The current year will be the last year when it will not be mandatory for a Cypriot tax resident under the tax-free annual income limit of €19500 to file a tax return. From 2019 everyone will be required to submit a tax declaration'' (Article dated October 2018). http://knews.kathimerini.com.cy/en...

Re: Central heating without diesel/gas in Cyprus...

Our house didn't have the means for central heating but we put it in entirely internally (no heat losses to the outside world). We had the pipes run in white-painted steel channels which are up against the ceilings and are never seen. There are smaller drop channels housing the two pipes above each...

Re: Free healthcare comes at a price

I have one atorvastatin tablet each day, and the Pharmacy give me 2 boxes of 14.. But on my monthly prescription it does say 2 boxes.. So I think your friend needs to revisit the doctor and have the prescription changed.. I fail to understand why drug companies package many of their medicines as pa...

Re: The Wall....Berlin Germany 1989, today 30 years ago(video)

In East Berlin it was somewhat better as it was prioritised when it came to supplies. In 1978 we were eating a 3 course meal (flambeéd at the table) at the restaurant next to the mayor´s hall for 6 Eastern marks. The official exchange rate to DM was 1:1 but the black market rate was 1:10. In front o...

I don´t know about this but you can use voip services like dialnow.com or voipbuster.com and get dirt cheap prices (e.g. dialnow: 0,6 cent/min) from your smartphone.

Re: The Wall....Berlin Germany 1989, today 30 years ago(video)

So, it was no wonder when people left the place towards West Germany, but for many it was not easy to cope with normal 10-11 working hours a day, specially when they used to work only a couple of hours/day in their previous jobs. It was also not easy for people in Western Germany to come up with th...

Do you even need a Cypriot bank account anymore given that there are services like revolut.com? Does anybody have experience with them? Are they reliable and convenient?

Re: The Wall....Berlin Germany 1989, today 30 years ago(video)

People forgot what life in communist Eastern Germany was like. I will never forget those 2 trips I had taken there before the wall came down. E. g. the intimidating search process you were subjected to at the border. Or that the hotel restaurant had a 5 page menu but you could only order a sandwich ...

Not at my age, you couldn't! Takes me all my time and energy to walk to my car parked outside
But during the last ice age you´d have been 10000 years younger!

Re: Akrotiri and Larnaca Airport at risk of sinking

at the end of each of the ice ages somehow the ice in the glaciers somehow melted, and as a result a huge amount of water from the huge glaciers resulted. The result being a dramatic rise in sea levels? Yes, that´s why Great Britain has been an island since the end of the last ice age. It wasn´t al...

Re: Cyprus Tax Declaration from 2019

Looking at note 7 of the Deloitte leaflet, it says that we don't have to pay the Special Defence Contribution until we have been resident for 17 of the last 20 years preceding the year of the return. True, because that makes you a non-domiciled resident (unless your dad was Cypriot in which case yo...
