Re: You couldn't make it up.

Some of us have been pointing out the folly of limiting EU workers who undertake the jobs no-one else want to do, since the day of the referendum. Makes you realise what ivory towers Tory ministers must live in if they think we don't need the millions of EU workers who staff nursing homes, clean hos...

Re: You couldn't make it up.

Always remember former poster on PL, smudger, claiming she wouldn't mind having to queue for for up to an hour in Passport Control on each journey, in exchange for the immeasurable benefits which Brexit would bring. Can someone please remind me what those benefits were :? And as the chance of a No D...

Re: Paphos: Online petition launched against destruction of environment

Whenever new enterprises are embarked upon, they always attract the same old whingers and doom-mongers. Twelve years ago we went through protests and massive criticism when the road down by the port was upgraded and turned into a one-way street, later when Kings Avenue Mall was built, then when Gero...

Re: You couldn't make it up.

Yes Jim. Reminds me that those who thought Brexit was such a brilliant idea really didn't think through the consequences. You and I both know that they didn't. Why would anyone choose to be inconvenienced in the freedom of movement throughout the EU which we all enjoy at the moment? In addition to y...

Re: British woman returns to Cyprus, arrested for failing to pay old hotel bill

As I observed recently on another thread, Cyprus banks have once more regained their mojo and are set on a drive towards profitability, in stark contrast to their dire position in 2013. In a way this is a good thing, because any country needs to have it's banks on a sound financial footing. Since it...

Re: Kiln-dried oak firewood

VERY interesting Martin. We came unstuck this winter. Normally we buy one or two cu.M of logs in the summer months from Irini, but this year left it until late in the Autumn. Irini had personal troubles at the time, so was not delivering logs when we contacted her, consequently we went elsewhere. Go...

Re: Debenhams

I don't like ordering clothes on line, as there is no guarantee that your usual size will in fact fit, or that the style or cut of the garment will suit. That’s a good reason for trying things on first in a store...Dee Agree with you about clothes Dee, but if you are familiar with a brand's sizing ...

Which is very unfair on shops who are deprived of sales which are needed to pay staff salaries and other overheads like rates and electricity bills. Dee You can't, Canute-like, change the rapid evolution in shopping habits. It's up to retailers to evolve and embrace the internet revolution. Some re...

Re: Paphos: 50 drivers booked in one day

What I do know is that a similar blitz in Larnaca yielded 836 booked for traffic offences in eight hours. That's a rate of over 100 per hour. If it takes, say, 10 mins to caution, lecture and book each driver (a not unreasonable assumption), that suggests at least 10 Police units must have been ope...

As I recall, planning regulations on extensions/enlargements were greatly eased about 5 years ago. This was in a government bid to stimulate the economy at the time. Quite generous relaxations too.

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence No.

We all know that a Cyprus DL can be used anywhere. What we're debating here is whether your personal Licence number is stated on line 4d on the card, or Line 5. Opinions differ ;) For car rental in another country you have to provide your Driving Licence number, so it's good to know whether 4d is co...

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence No.

I have hired cars in the UK several times using my Cypriot license. The hire car company probably used my ARC/ ID no and were quite happy with that. Dee Yes, because in the UK, No.5 is the driving licence number, so they believe they are noting the correct number. I used my Cyprus Driving Licence t...

Re: Cataract surgery

As Dee says, each to their own. On a personal note, while I was briefly tempted to have the operation done for near free with GESY, I made the decision to pay for the operation at what is widely regarded as the best eye clinic in Cyprus. Dr Theo is co-partner of Pantheo (hence the name of the clinic...

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence No.

Just to clarify - perhaps posters are not making it clear which driving licence and the country of issue. 1. On my last UK (EU format) Photo Driving Licence Para 5 is indeed the UK Driver Licence number. 2. On my current CY (EU format) Photo Driving Licence Para 5 is my National ID or Alien registr...

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence No.

On UK plastic driving licences, No. 5 is the driving licence number. On Cyprus ones (not sure about the rest of the EU) 4d is. This has been discussed before on this forum.

Re: Cataract surgery

Had my cataract op with Dr Theo at Pantheo a couple of days ago. It's a really bizarre experience having a surgeon operating on your eye for 20 minutes while you are wide awake; both of you chatting about everyday stuff. Needless to say, the eye is numbed beforehand with anaesthetic drops. We left t...

Re: Cyprus Driving Licence No.

Like I said in all my previous posts on this thread ;) 5 is your I.D. and S.I. number, therefore your driving licence number has to be 4d. In the past few months I have given the 4d number to a number of car rental companies and all were happy with it when they cross-checked with my plastic driving ...
