Re: Eligible for GESY?

Hi,

As per Lofos Jan’s response the answer is no. You need to have an MEU3, pay Cyprus Social Insurance or have an S1 if you only have am MEU1. The worst thing thing is you still have to pay the GESY charge of 2.65% of your worldwide income as well.

Re: Photovoltaics, is this comment true

Very concerning as I have agreed to the installation of a 4kwh system. Under the calculation suggested by CyprusMax, under this EAC policy, I think my system would be restricted to 3kwh. I am planning to phase out my gas CH system, as the boiler needs replacing, and install A/C units instead for hea...

Re: Safepass is the new coronavirus state of play in Cyprus, as of Monday

After scrolling alway through the May 8th Decree, Section 2.38 it does say you do not need a test if you are an Employee if you had a vaccination at least 3 weeks ago. I must have missed this like HIC as I thought you still had to have a Rapid Test as an Employee regardless. I need not have bothered...

Re: Covid vaccination portal only for people aged 57-58 opened at 8am

Hi Jimgym,

No worries about the name. Managed to get through to the 1474 number and they confirmed I have an appointment booked. Glad I checked as I was completely unsure whether I had done things correctly. Thanks to everyone who suggested ringing 1474.

Hi Jimgym,

Thanks - Looks like I don't have a valid appointment then as I never received anything back

Re: Covid vaccination portal only for people aged 57-58 opened at 8am

When you book an appointment online do you get a text or email message (having input the details) when you book an appointment ? When I tried for my age group, I got nothing back so I am not even sure whether I actually have a valid appointment or not

Thanks

Re: Gallblader

I had mine removed at the Iasis a few years ago as well. Again no problems since it was removed. Mine was badly infected and resulted in a week in hospital initially to bring the infection under control. I spent another week in hospital for the operation as well as the infection had flared up again....

Re: New HSBC Account Not Being Recognised By UK Pension Service

Hi Varky, I am not old enough for a UK State pension yet so I do not have your problem for a few years yet. Interesting read about Cynergy Bank. I was called by them in towards the end of November to see if I had received their letter @bout closing accounts on the 29th December, I had not but was aw...

Re: New HSBC Account Not Being Recognised By UK Pension Service

Hi Varky, I am in exactly the same position as you with my account being closed by Cynergy Bank and opening an account at HSBC. Is the Sort Code 40-11-92 ? I had similar problems with Skipton International in that their online system did not recognise the sort code. Eventually they manually added it...

Re: Thousands more expats to lose bank accounts after 'Brexit day' - Telegraph

Yes I have from Cynergy Bank as have a number of others on the island. Cynergy Bank accounts are being closed on the 29th December because of Brexit, another wonderful Brexit dividend. They gave me 60 days notice but it took 30 days for the letter to arrive, though they did contact me by phone in th...

Re: Latest COVID Announcement - Paphos travel ban lifted.

The restaurant opening times do seem very illogical. I cannot see many restaurants opening at 5 or 6 o'clock when they have to close by 7 pm. It might work for the few restaurants opening on a lunchtime on Saturday and Sunday (and possibly Friday) but it will not encourage anyone to open for this sh...

Re: GESY on Pension Commutations ?

Hi All, I finally received a response from the Paphos Tax Office yesterday in response to my query on this. Pension Lump Sums are tax free, but unless you have an S1, which I do not, the Pension Lump Sum is subject to GESY, which is now 2.65%, will work out at hefty amount. The "horses mouth&qu...

Re: GESY on Pension Commutations ?

Hi Dodo, I have tried the Paphos Tax Office today and it was a complete waste of time. The tax window by the main entrance was completely shuttered off and only a box for leaving forms was there. The usual tax window by the cashiers office was also inaccessible and completely shuttered. I did notice...

Re: GESY on Pension Commutations ?

Hi, Thanks for the responses. I have tried ringing the tax office again and got an answerphone. Left a message and a phone number, but no response. I will try the tax office in person on Thursday if I don't get a response in the interim. The issue is a lack of an S1 as I don't qualify for one yet. Y...

GESY on Pension Commutations ?

Hi All, I have been trying to find the answer to the above question without success so far for my Taxisnet return. I know Pension lump sums are tax free in both the UK and Cyprus. However, I am not sure about GESY as I don't have an S1. Does anyone have a definitive answer ? I have tried to contact ...
