Re: EV cars and parking

lol... it was first reported as a fire belived to have been started by a vehicle... it was only when social media started circulating rumours that it was an EV fire did the clarification appear in order to counter that false narrative. Not really sure what warrants the 'lol' as this is far from fun...

Re: EV cars and parking

Oh and in case of doubt .. the source of the fire at Luton airport car park was reportedly a diesel powered Range Rover .. Yeah. Did you notice that? How quickly they reported it was a car fire started by a diesel vehicle. Normally, it would just be reported that the fire was started by a vehicle, ...

Re: Paphos Smart Parking

How this works in the UK is the app knows where you are as it geolocates you via your phone’s gps. You don’t need to know where you are or street names or anything. It tells you, and shows you via a map in the app.

So, I would expect the Cypriot system to be similar.

Re: P&O Ferries

Another point is, why was it the the French P&O staff weren't given their notice unlike the 800 British staff. If you run a multinational business like this, the UK is always seen as a soft touch when it comes to redundancies and laying people off. By comparison, French employment law is very r...

Re: No Isolation

Omicron deaths, as with the Delta variant in the UK, are listed as such if someone dies within 28 days of a positive test. Therefore anyone who is terminally ill with anything else, and would have died anyway, is still classed as a Covid death if tested positive. Indeed it is said that even people ...

(Just joking - I love Marmite, whatever unholy ingredients it's made from!) Me too. Our current favourites in the UK are Marmite-branded Houmous and Marmite-branded peanut butter which is available as smooth or crunchy. I even had a go at making my own Marmite peanut butter by buying some cheapo sm...

Re: SafePass possession checks via the CovScan application will be mandatory as of 22 November

As an aside, with apps generally, the developers have to decide where the version 'cut off' should be from a security perspective, or they need to engineer in extra security overhead to ensure that either your device or their system cannot be compromised, primarily the latter. Android 5.1 was releas...

Re: Water tank problem

I once came across exactly this scenario when asked to look at a friends system. The header tank occasionally ran out of the overflow despite the ballcock being reasonably new and in good order. The problem was with the indirect immersion. The immersion tank was vented into the cold water header tan...

Ok, so not Detroit eh; fair enough. But putting an upturned plastic kayak on cart springs and powering it with something derived from WWII is hardly modern or cutting edge is it, even for the time period? You should have a look at what the rest of the world was doing during your 1970 to 1981 time pe...

Re: Fire In The Hills.

Not sure exactly what firefighting planes they're currently using in Cyprus, but in in some countries the planes are equipped with scoops which allow them to skim over the surface of a lake, and collect more water, effectively refilling on the go. Obviously, this requires the right plane and a big e...

Re: Is Hydrogen the Answer ?

Certainly in the UK at least, the testing end evaluation of this planned transition has already started. In the same way that they gradually introduced a proportion of bioethanol into vehicle fuel, and have gradually increased the proportion as more becomes known about its side-effects on vehicles, ...

One cannot help but wonder where it will be built. Re: Thick rope?

That's pretty good.

In my local chandlery, the cheapest plain white nylon mooring rope around the one inch diameter mark (25mm) is about £7.00 per meter.
For other types and styles, the price increases from this.

'-A minimum of about one and a half inches thick' - That's approaching 40mm! That's some serious rope. I'd be very surprised if you'll find something like that in a DIY store. Around Paphos, your best bet is likely to be a ships chandlers or marine supplies place, but make sure you're seated when as...

If I recall correctly parking facing oncoming traffic is an offence under the construction and use regulations in the UK also... This is true. No, no stats - just observational really. Having spent a lot of time in Cyprus over the last two plus decades, you get a a real feel for what the general public are like. There's not much of a sense of urgency for anything, and a bit of an 'it'll be alright tomorrow' mantra, which I really like and ...
