Re: I need to establish...am I dead or alive?

We keep on getting a phone call from a UK number. 0117 4780204 and 0161 8205290. For the 0161 number I ask where are you calling from. Reply was Liverpool. OK what is the weather like which they usually get wrong. Then I ask them about the 0161 number which is Manchester and why they say thay are in...

Re: Problems with Passport Office courier TNT

We did ours at the end of September. Took just over 3 weeks. We sent ours by DHL and they were in the UK two days later. Both passports came back in just over 3 weeks but we waited longer for our old ones to be returned. Very pleased with the DHL service in Cyprus. DHL driver now knows us and where ...

Re: It is a good morning

It was a beautiful morning. I went for a walk along the seafront from Gerriskipou Beach to the harbour and back. Put it on the Paphos Life facebook page. Really clear and wish I had taken my proper camera. IMG_20211123_103908890_HDR.jpg Much quieter this week. A few hotels had closed for the winter ...

Re: Londos Perasma at Timi review in Cyprus Mail

The taverna at Achelia is closed at the moment. That is the one that the owner was accused of poisoning. It reopened as lockdown ended, and Dimmitris, who was one of the waiters at Gabriel's in Kouklia was one of the partners, along with a radiologist from Greece. Unfortunately it closed, which sadd...

Londos Perasma at Timi review in Cyprus Mail

One of our favourite tavernas was recently reviewed in the Cyprus Mail. We have been tonight, and had one of their specials, which is not usually on the menu, fillet of pork in Commandria Sauce. It was really superb. His souvlaki is brilliant also, and slightly different from other tavernas as he co...

Re: Recommendations for Photovoltaic system.

With our solar cover, our pool temperature is still a warm 27c. When the water temperature gets down to 24c, we shall start using our Fairland Pool Heater, which is a Heat Pump. Very economical to use and uses between 1 and 3 kw per hour depending on outside temperature. Last year we started using i...

It has certainly put Xylofagou on the map. How many people now will get off the highway and visit to take pictures?

Re: Thule Bike Rack and Towbar

Yes, will have to go and get a number plate at the motor ascessory shop on the Polis Road, remembering to take the log book with me, unlike the UK where my mechanic just made one up on his premises. In reply to Dominic, In Cyprus I have already cycled from Anarita to St George's and then back to Cor...

Thule Bike Rack and Towbar

I have recently bought a new electric bike. My original electric bike in Cyprus was fine for riding locally and coped with the hills between Anarita, Nats and Choletria fine, but I kept getting error messages that the motor was overheating in the mountains. New bike was purchased in Limassol at Bike...

Agree Varky. A few years ago we were showered with gun pellets on our patio, including lead shot. Phoned police in Kouklia and they were round within minutes. It has not happened since.

I can never remember being actually ashamed of signing on. It was seen as a lifeline if you lost your job.

Re: UK TV

It must have. It was only as a last resort that I tried my old Netgear extender, and it worked. Smart DNS works perfectly on the Fire Stick through our latest model cyta router. It was only on our old Samsung Tablets that it did not work. However, really pleased that we can watch all of UK tv withou...

Re: UK TV

I have installed Smart DNS on my modem. I can watch all UK tv on my Amazon Kindle stick and all of my Android devices. Had a problem with it initially as we have the new cyta modem. Everything worked perfectly on my firestick and pc. However, nothing would work on my android devices. A friend who ha...

Been to Sports Direct twice. Both times had to show vaccination certificate and ID. Our daughter Rach had to show Cyprus Flightpass and ID. She did not have her passport but they accepted her UK driving licence. Second time we went, the lady on the door was very friendly. First time, we were not eve...

Re: Vaccination

We have felt very safe here in Cyprus during the pandemic. Both of us are now vaccinated and only a few weeks later than we would have been in Wales. We have taken advantage of the vulnerable peoples shopping hours, which we call old codgers shopping. Lidl at 7:15am, followed by Alpha Mega. No queue...

Also many people, including us, cutting down on potatoes for dietry reasons. We used to have potatoes with almost every meal but now perhaps just once a week or chips when we go out.

Re: Paphos SODAP Beaches and Sea Front - After Lockdown

Did the same walk today, again late afternoon. A couple of the hotels which usually cater for the more sedate visitor were full of what looked like 18/30 holidaymakers. No social distancing and a long line queing at the outside bar for drinks. Also no masks whilst queuing and groups spilling onto th...

Re: Paphos SODAP Beaches and Sea Front - After Lockdown

I went on a walk from Phaethon Beach Hotel, Gerriskipou Beach, to the harbour and back yesterday. Quite a few of the hotels open and busy with tourists from Israel, Russia and EU countries. Met a couple from France, who were very surprised that there were no British tourists until I explained that i...
