Re: Paphos crematorium faces new delays, completion expected next year
Certainly wanted and needed in Cyprus and whilst unlikely it would have been better with Govt. financial support. They must have factored in the financial side though with a view that this will take a few years to provide a return. €2.2 million build cost excluding running costs There's approx say 6...

Re: State Pension
He misled the country, and is still doing it, he's a liar and hypocrite, and as such, is unfit to lead our country. Well that should rule out Farage then ;-) The UK certainly would have had more money if they hadn't chosen to listen to the Brexit promises & lies peddled by some newly reformed l...

Re: Jim Cross
Wow that is really sad news!!
I only messaged him a few weeks ago as hadn't seen him online and we exchanged messages.
It was from Cyprus Living that our eastern forum started and it was very helpful when we were buying property.
RIP Jim and thanks for the memories!

Re: Cyprus; Living the Dream, or is it a nightmare?
As for fleeing in the face of war, it's a good job my grandfather and his generation, and my father and his generation, fought for our freedom, or we wouldn't be so lucky to day. Would they have legged it elsewhere for safety, having left their families to face the foe, I think not. We have much to...

Re: Cyprus; Living the Dream, or is it a nightmare?
Of course, you can´t paint skilled workers who are in the country legally with the same brush as those who reside in Europe illegally. And of course, you can´t paint all the illegal ones with the same brush einther. But that's exactly what people are doing - conflating all together and for good mea...

Re: Cyprus; Living the Dream, or is it a nightmare?
My husband and I were two of those immigrants. We had to prove our identity, that we could afford to live in Cyprus, pay for health insurance, and rightly so. We had booklets telling us that we were registered as Aliens, after much investigation. You will find that many of the immigrants in the UK ...

Well I call a pre loaded Aspen card a benefit! You also said: "if necessary, provide only food and drink to maintain life." The Aspen card provides £49.18 per person on a payment card for food, clothing and toiletries (or £8.86 per person if your accommodation provides your meals) per wee...

Re: Cyprus; Living the Dream, or is it a nightmare?
You cannot deny the number of illegal immigrants flooding the UK, it's a fact. If you show concern, you are a far-right racist. Of course it's wrong to riot, and will yobs jump on the band wagon, but British citizens such as I, are truly worried for our future. Dominic is right. There certainly is ...

Re: Cyprus; Living the Dream, or is it a nightmare?
One of the reasons people are rioting now is because people haven't listened to their concerns in the past. But going right back to the last labour government and beyond, people have just been brushing aside people's legitimate concerns and calling everybody with an issue a far-right racist. In fai...

Why are they cancelled? Is EJ in trouble? I usually fly EJ, and have always found them to be very good. To be fair many of the airlines have had issues recently and could well be the knock on effect from the software problem that affected many companies a short while ago. Planes could be in the wro...

Devil's (Brian) daughter - Catrina - says that she is not very good with computers and was struggling to get on. I have shared a direct link to this thread a different way so she will be able to read all the lovely comments. She may well sign up and respond as I know she has been touched by the resp...

Re: Devil
You may remember that Devil shared a few of his videos over the years - here's one of his first videos from 16+ years ago I thought this one was fitting, given that it was a place both Brian and Margaret loved, and chose to call home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52skkEz36RU You can find more of ...

Re: Devil
I really am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I reached out on Facebook and connected with someone who knows a neighbour of Devil's (Brian). They have just come back to confirm that unfortunately he passed away at the start of May. The neighbour apparently lived on the same street and I cannot con...

Re: Devil
Does he have any relatives/close friends, living in Cyprus, does anyone know? If so, a tactful message of concern wouldn't go amiss. Without wishing to reveal too much personal info, he does have a daughter but she doesn't live in Cyprus. Am trying to arrange for someone to pop around and do a disc...

Re: Devil
No answer to my calls today - but please note I got his number from the phone directory and it could well be that he no longer has a landline, or doesn't recognise the number so is not answering etc etc. He hasn't logged in here for 20 days and a bit longer than that on ours which is a bit unusual -...

Hopefully it's just a mundane reason as Dominic suggests. I posted a while back on it and have PM'd him and emailed - but didn't check the domain and looks as mentioned that it's just expired (didn't bounce though). I tried calling him a little earlier but no answer - could be that he doesn't recogn...

Re: Cyprus calls for applications from those hit by 2013 Haircut
Lets hope they get full compensation. It affected a few people who had proceeds from house sales taken, before they were transferred to the UK. Hi John - unfortunately, from what I have read, I don't think it will be full compensation: "partially replenish losses incurred by depositors and bon...

Cyprus calls for applications from those hit by 2013 Haircut
Not sure if anyone on here was caught up in the 2013 Haircut - but this popped up on NewsInCyprus and thought given the short notice it was worth sharing: Cyprus calls for applications from those hit by 2013 Haircut The Cyprus Finance Ministry called on all those who were affected by the 2013 Cyprus...
