Ah but the fine for non wearing a helmet on a bike is by some irony, half of that if caught not wearing a mask.....
Does that explain something! Life is cheaper...

Re: Possible rain on Monday

I agre with you on this, HIC. As you said it would be very unusual if Paphos had rain in August. Not in the 20yrs I havd lived here... At present theres no talk of any storms coming our way.

We are a long way from Devil's habitat.

Re: Coronavirus: Cases should drop to previous low levels "in two to three weeks"

Probably the time of year, with the airports open and some people traveling again, inevitably helps fuel an increase of the virus.Especially with irresponsible tourists like that woman from the USA recently who ignored the need to self isolate.. But also with the summer weather and the holiday seaso...

Re: Possible rain on Monday

Hate to be a bit pessimistic about the chances of rain in coastal areas on Monday. According to my <weatherunderground.com> forecast for Paphos on Monday it will be partly cloudy with Max temps of 29c and a westerly wind. The night and early morning will be up to 88% humidity. There is unfortunately...

Let's hope so! As usual the Govt and the Heath Minister are reported as acting very decisively to track and trace all the contacts of the woman who arrived from the USA. We have another thread on this board about the woman who is currently in quarantine, as hopefully all her contacts are too.

Re: Akamas communities confronted with serious demographic decline

I think the problem of the decreases in population in the more distant villages from the nearest town isn't only on the Laona Plateau where most of these villages are found, as it also extends to many of the 'hill villages' in the Troodos area. It seems to be a fact of modern life that as children g...

Re: Another side effect of Covid-19

I don't worry about their forecasts as they usually only apply to Nicosia and inland areas. Its usually about 6c cooler than that in Paphos and much more humid in summer. I use <weatherunderground.com> for the Paphos forecast which is much more accurate. It gives, temperatures by the hour, wind direc...

Re: Coronavirus: Charges being considered against spreader from the US

I wonder what the tourists are supposed to be doing then. If they are only here for 7 or 14 days are they confined to the area within the grounds of their hotels or will they be out and about everywhere as normal? If so, that doesn't make sense as large numbers of them won't be in social isolation.....

Re: Russia initiates scrapping of taxation deal with Cyprus

Yes, I read something about that. Is it also tit-for -tat perhaps, as the EU is believed to be leaning heavily on Cyprus with regard to reducing the cash for passports scheme which they think is facilitating the laundering of funds?

Re: Travelling To Cyprus From The UK - Clarifications

Hi Photo Lady, Just reading your answer. It seems that the UK travel industry hasn't yet adjusted to the new conditions regarding foreign travel now with the Covid19 ever present. But they will have to, as apart from Covid, after 1st Jan 21, when the UK will no longer be a part of the EU, the curren...

Re: Masks mandatory from tonight.

I find its less crowded generally when I go into supermarkets, shops etc early morning. Am happy to get my temperature taken on entry as it shows that the store is taking sensible precautions against the virus... and am wearing my mask correctly. Most people I've seen in Cyprus are doing this. But m...

Re: Travelling To Cyprus From The UK - Clarifications

Hi Photo Lady, Thanks for your clarification. Like most people living here we depend on the UK news reports and reports from our UK based friends. The BBC often has a 'doomwatch' kind of pessimism. Today they are highlighting the inadequacy of the UK's track and trace system and forecasts of a bigge...

Re: Mask Watch

When out yesterday, in Papas, Ellados Ave. I did notice a few people wearing 'chin masks', just below their noses. But most people were properly masked. At Lidl, the security man who is always at the entrance to the store was telling customers to wear their masks. I hope that everyone is sensible re...

These sorts of problems affected me when I lived at Kamares and I had many discussions with Cyta engineers. I always found them unfailingly courteous and helpful. Like you, we had weeks when the wireless problems affected us. But their vans would eventually come and they always sorted out the proble...

Dominic, Sorry, but I think that was an unkind posting and un necessary.
It almost amounts to censorship of a kind. Already the number of people who post on here has dropped and seems almost limited now to the same few people.

Any new building project in Paphos seems to take ages.. Glad that this new facility is going to be built. The sooner the better. I understand that the present facility is in constant use.

Re: Glad to be here: UK tourists land in Cyprus

It seems that Jet2 has little regard for people's health in the recipient country which they are trying to bring planeloads of tourists to. They are simply trying to bludgeon the Govt into letting them land here without complying with the countries health safety requirements. Look what happened in S...

Re: What happened to virus test machine’s at airports?

Cyprus has bought some expensive machines fairly recently, but those were to enable passengers to check in on line for their flights supposedly quicker. That's when they are working! But I haven't heard about 'test machines. Isn't the virus testing at the airports carried out by staff from the healt...
