Re: Green light for new study on combined Paphos marina cruise hub

Yes, an interesting post John. You are right that the old town could do with more foot fall to the shops ...and more shops! But I suspect that more cruise passengers would probably gravitate to the Mall, which is both nearer and in summer is air conditioned! As to additional parking near the harbour,...

Re: Green light for new study on combined Paphos marina cruise hub

I doubt if any major development will take place in Paphos harbour or its environs. That area is part of a World Heritage site, so is protected. Gereskipou coast would be a better place for a marina as it is close to Paphos and can be easily reached. It has a long sandy/shingle beach, But that area ...

Re: FIRE?

Whatever the cause, at the end of the day everyone should be aware of the fire risk at present and should act in a responsible way when out in the countryside. So why is it that some people are just downright careless? Anyone who lives here should be aware of the extreme fire risk at the end of a lo...

Re: Charity threatens to release animals into the streets

Paphiakos have had an emergency rescue service for animals for some years, but whether they are still able to do this may depend on their finances and if they have a suitable vehicle. I could probably find out.

Re: Charity threatens to release animals into the streets

Trev, I think that they have to cull some. As it is their dog sanctuary can have 400 animals and thats not counting puppies in a separate area. They try their hardest, but there is a limit. So many animals arrive needing care on a daily basis. Then there is the cattery.. , they try to rehome as many...

Re: Akamas Fire Day 2

Why publicise these mindless persons who according to todays paper have committed arson in a beautiful natural forest? The Akamas Forest is about to become part of the Natura 2000 National Akamas Park. According to the newspaper report the police think the perpetrators want to sell their land for de...

Re: Heads Up - Xmas Panto in Emba

Yes, come on support our locally produced panto! Stage I produce some very good productions throughout the year. Based in Emba where they have their own theatre,
Unlike the Markideon Theatre which currently has no bar, there are no such problems at Emba!

Re: Charity threatens to release animals into the streets

Dare I say it, but since it is so difficult to get owners to neuter their animals, plus the problem caused by the sheer number of feral cats and digs, the only humane solution to overcrowded shelters is the humane and selective euthanasia of some in order to keep numbers manageable. Indiscriminate b...

Re: FIRE?

Hunters are often smokers too.. a stray cigarette or a match not properly extinguished before being thrown from a car window has been the cause of forest and countryside fires previously. Half day closing of shops and other businesses could also be a reason why more people are out and about from lun...

Re: FIRE?

If only ‘hunting’ could be banned. If it was there would be less reason for people to invade beautiful natural forests en masse , especially mid week. Thus limiting the damage by fire. Though if these fires are started by landowners/ developers its a different ball game... Why can’t new development ...

Re: Immigration

Well, I did use a well known agent to help me and it paid off when after 9 months my MEU3 still hadn’t arrived. They found out that although it had apparently been issued and posted, when it still hadn’t come, they were able to arrange for me to get duplicate one. For this one of the agents staff de...

Re: Water pumped from the sea to the land for Cyprus' high-rise buildings

HIC, I take your point, regarding high rise buildings built in earthquake zones. But in most developed countries planning and building regs such as the UK, USA etc govt planning depts have the services of their own highly experienced chartered surveyors who will check these plans before they are pas...

Re: Water pumped from the sea to the land for Cyprus' high-rise buildings

HIC, I guess that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I got used to high rise buildings while living in Hong Kong, but there land was at a premium. I don’t think that they improve the look of Limassol. Neither do quite a lot of people who live there. Imagine how you would feel if the view from you...

Re: Water pumped from the sea to the land for Cyprus' high-rise buildings

Yes, badly written and confusing.
I hope that someone or some body will be able to set a precedent and challenge some of these part foreign financed planning applications for ugly high rise buildings which are springing up, particularly in Limassol, but Paphos is also in danger too.
