The village museum in Steni is also well worth a visit - as are the platter meals, in The Watermill tavern which is just opposite.

Re: Cyprus health service
Just before she passed away my Mum spent nearly 6 hours on the floor waiting for an ambulance. The same thing happened to my friends father, 11 hours in his case. I have friends in different parts of the U.K. who have had and are having an absolute nightmare and consistent issues with care and treat...

Re: Postage for cards to the UK
We posted around 30 cards to the U.K. the other day, I think 64 cents each plus the extra 2 cent stamp. Total cost including 3 others to USA, Canada and Australia was €22.11. Cards were all a similar size, fairly average size (purchased with postage costs in mind 😂😂) Never worked out how it’s so che...

Re: Businesses that don't accept cards
Some businesses used and preferred cash to avoid putting it through the books and avoid corporation tax. This backfired on some when it came to claiming for support during COVID as their figures don’t meet the required criteria due to the missing funds.

Re: Important: Receiving medicinal products from the UK in Cyprus?
This is probably a stupid question, so don’t shoot the questioner, but why would a resident of Cyprus have medicine posted from the U.K.? Are we talking about private purchases or from a GP practice? Or does this include vitamins etc that I guess may fall under the banner of medicine?

Re: Businesses that don't accept cards
My thoughts on the OP are that they are quite simply not complying with the law. In the early days when the rules came in a common response was that “we are still waiting for the machine”, 2 years or so down the line that should be much less of an issue. Even our the dog groomers we use have those l...

Re: Conditions at Paphos general hospital ‘tragic’ says mayor
Have always thought why don't they charge 1 euro for parking at the harbour and then this to be used for the General. Could also do this at the Hospital itself. I am sure the Mayor could be proactive in doing something about the hospital. Or he could divert some of the Smart payment parking scheme ...

Re: Eco house build experiences?
Yes. Steve at EcoTek did the original engineering drawings for our house but we chose not to build with them. Our house kit was constructed by a company in Scotland and shipped here. Everything was coordinated and subsequently project managed by our architect here - from designs to permissions, cont...

Andreas and his flock were at the other side of the fence at bottom of our garden a couple of years ago which attracted the attention of our small dog who excitedly let them know it’s her patch. The goats scarpered at high speed and he was chasing them into the distance whilst they completely ignore...

Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
Lincoln, we do have change for supermarket trolleys in our cars if needed but these days since the rules changed we hardly use cash, even in our local village shops and taverna, so change is an increasingly rare commodity - used an ATM only 3 times this year according to my records. Cash is a PITA f...

Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
Actually my phone is also a pay-as-you-go one but you can turn the data on or off when you want to. I will give the system a try once I get the payments from JCC sorted out. But it does seem a lot more complicated that just putting a coin in a meter. Also at the moment how do you know which parking...

Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
But it would seem that you have to have some payment system set up on your phone.. Just wondering what happens if someone selects a parking spot on the App and at the same time someone is at the location using the SMS system for the same parking spot. Link to a very detailed article about Smart Par...

Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
But it would seem that you have to have some payment system set up on your phone.. It’s easy Trev. You download the app, register, then load your account with money using a link to JCC to top it up, a system many of us are used to, I did €10 for example when the system first launched and I’m still ...

Re: Smart App or SMS Payment Required At 8 Parking Locations From Monday
In other words they are removing the coin operated ticket machines in those 8 car parks around Paphos. Really like the App, I know it only small change but I like having it pay only what I use when just popping somewhere for a short while and paying a few cents and not faffing about making sure I ha...
