Re: Speed cameras

Dominic, this report suggests that not only have fatalities increased but that the primary cause is carelessness and not paying attention (mobiles probably). Combine that with a poor seatbelt wearing records - so many reports of incidents over the years have commented that the victims were not weari...

Re: Speed cameras

The way the lights operate for right turns since the cams were installed confused the hell out of me until my barber explained we’ve all been getting away with it for years. Not helped by the fact that other right turn lights are sequenced differently - even further down the hill towards Paphos. The...

Re: Chemicals for Cockroaches

Go to PlantFix store, on Polis Road, almost opposite London Garden Centre. I bought a chemical mix for the drains. It was a dilatable solution and it worked great. Can't remember name of it as it was a few years ago now. Used the same stuff from PlantFix - stinks like hell but works. They have two ...

Re: Dog Friendly Resteraunts ??

Nola in the market area of the old town, Sunset Breeze on coast in Chloraka - have a dog play area (see pictures on trip advisor, though I guess Max won’t leave your side anyway as usual), Sentiero by the Sea in Sea Caves - a couple of tables with dogs when we went recently. Probably ok at Sea Caves...

Re: Paphos Smart Parking

JB - you don’t need a Cyprus mobile. You need a Cyprus sim to use the SMS payment, surely, as the money is charged to your phone bill, which presumably passes it onto Paphos Municipality. If you use the app and your debit/credit card, then the sim country shouldn't matter. Not sure about that AMS, ...

Re: Recycle Bins

What is going on with all the recycle bins, they have all been taken away? Cannot believe that we haven’t been put in the picture as to what is going on. It’s not only the recycle bins but some ordinary waste bins have disappeared too. If you mean the ones by stadium car park, we noticed they had m...

Re: Paphos Smart Parking

Why mess about with apps. Just SMS to 9191 and put in the number of the space as the message, job done. Maybe because many people don't have a Cyprus Mobile perhaps? Caledonian- it may not be important to some but I don’t believe parking is charged pro rata when using SMS v using an app. If regular...

Re: Parking app and UK phones

Mike, you need to come for a coffee and a lesson. It’s a doddle. You don’t need to know where you are. Park in a bay, open the app and press the blue parking icon, on the next screen you just type the 4 digit number painte on the floor of the parking bay and press Start Parking. If there’s no number...

Re: Paphos Smart Parking

Why mess about with apps. Just SMS to 9191 and put in the number of the space as the message, job done. Can’t possibly see how they can tell if the space is covered, or identify a vehicle unless they have underground sensors and npr cameras for each space. The parking officers on the scooters can t...

Re: Travel Medication

I can't answer your specific question about the general hospital travel clinic but I know from speaking to my GP that you cannot get Malarone malaria tablets in Cyprus (or the generic version) and they're the ones I like to take since you don't need to take them for as long and they haven't given m...

Travel Medication

Do anybody have any experience of using the Vaccination centre at Paphos General Hospital for travel vaccinations? I’m interested to know what type of malaria tablets they typically dispense. Was in there earlier this week but on my long list of questions I missed that one.

Call Franks Blinds on 97 790978. I know he offers these as an option on fly screens but I can’t comment on their effectiveness as ours are the standard material.

Re: COVID RESTRICTIONS

The position is quite clear, the requirement to present a negative Covid-19 test result in order to visit a hospital or nursing home was lifted recently - as reported in the Cyprus Mail and other media outlets on 19 March: https://cyprus-mail.com/2024/03/19/no-more-covid-tests-to-visit-hospitals/ Ian

:D To all the people who are having cardiac arrests at the St George flag, here's a bit of History for you. George was from Anatolia, a Greek-speaking town now part of modern day Turkey, and because of his tall stature and fair hair was probably of Darian origin. George's family were Christians, hi...

Re: Cyta - so easy

Interesting. Perhaps they had a flood of people like us ditching them for other providers after they introduced this last year. My wife switched to a Primetel pay monthly account and is very happy with it as she makes far more use of the phone. My own PrimeTel contract is due for renewal in a couple...

I applied to the UK for an EHIC card last year but was told I wasn't eligible unlessI I had a UK address. Blame Brexit. However I have been told that the NHS will provide emergency care, but bearing in mind the curren t state of the NHS and the very long waits for anything concerning health treatme...

Why? It’s a card issued for residents of European countries. Available by appointment at Citizens Service Centres.

Re: Masks and mandatory tests following Covid 'outbreak'

Sorry Dominic, but that is just someone offering an opinion, based on no actual facts. No evidence is presented. There have been scant few scientific studies carried out. One of the few real studies that was carried out was in Norway and that found that masks did nothing to prevent the spread of co...
