Re: If you go down to the woods today...

10/10 on this one, Dominic! Thanks! First time I did the Aphrodite Trail was on my own, starting from the Baths car park (where the Priest used to sell oranges from the back of his truck) and then went straight up taking a clockwise route. I was only wearing Clarkes sandals and wasn't packing any wa...

Re: Solar Car Battery Charger

Why not simply remove the battery from the vehicle and take it inside the house? Then use a smart gadget like http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/battery-chargers-jump-starters/halfords-smart-battery-charger-vehicles-up-to-2-0l to keep the battery at optimum charge whilst you're ...

Re: Vretsia Tavern

BTW, were you solo on that very adventurous journey? If so, what sort of backup support did you have with you, just in case things went pear-shaped? These thoughts often occured to me, after driving tracks like you did (for walks suggestions) in my borrowed ancient Toyota 2WD Twin Cab truck on my ow...

Re: Road tax renewals begins January 9

Why do these dopey Civil Servants insist on renewing every vehicle road tax at the same time each year? Of course this overwhelmes their systems during this annual peak! Then leaves them doing largely NOWT for the rest of the year. How stupid is that? Spread it out evenly MONTHLY pro rata, based on ...

Re: Coach Convoy escorted by Police

A practise exercise for an upcoming Governmental calvalcade maybe?

Or a practise exercise for introducing sensibly-priced tourist buses from PFO into Paphos, without the interference and intimidation of the Paphos TAXI Mafia?

That would certainly need an armed escort...

Re: What did you do this morning..

14ºC more like it, according to Auntie's weather UK forecast today. But there's a definate sense and feel of Spring in the air here now (4 miles from LTN in UK).. Large bumble bees hovering and buzzing around outside our windows. Butterflys fluttering around the flowers. Wood Pigeons nesting in our ...

Re: AD-Choices

Thanks for the tips about AD-Blocker, folks! Just installed it to my latest Firefox and I'm now ADs free, wooooo!! Might even be able to watch a YouTube vid now, without this pesky AD issue at the start! Paypal donations worked very nicely on our ukcvs.net (Sat/Cable) 'hobby' board hosted on an exce...

AD-Choices

Oh dear, Dominic- we have a Google ADs invasion on Paphos Life! VERY annoying... Nobody expects you to run this site for free, given your hosting costs, domain name fees, etc etc. If you conduct a Members Poll, I think you'll find that the majority of us would much prefer to have an ADs-FREE PL boar...

Re: Trophy plates and engraving

Try in the little side streets above the Market up in Pafos old town. Just about every shop does a different type of hand skills for the locals, at really knock-down prices. I'm sure you'll find what you want in that little énclave. But take the presentation piece with you, plus a clear drawing of e...

Re: The young Ezousa river quite unknown. Video

Thanks for sharing, Max, beautiful stuff! Reminded me of many walks up the Avakas Gorge and other river valleys in the Pafos area.

Where there's running water, there's always lush vegetation and birds (not to mention snakes, ahem!)

Keep them coming, please! Cheers- AL :D

Re: Vretsia Tavern

Polis / Skarfos Bridge / below Simou / on the Evretou river above the Evretou Dam can easily be reached by normal saloon car, Dom, if you haven't seen this bridge yet? Down from (and back up to) Simou was the route I chose. It's also worth driving along the dead-end track running NW from Skarfos Bri...

Re: Coptic Storms

I've been in Pafos late April on two or three occasions in the past. Amazed to wake up in the morning and opening the blinds, to witness an orange vista of mist. Spooky... Outside, all the patios, furniture, windows, your cars were covered in a hard gritty red sand from the Sahara Desert in North Af...

Re: Cypria Maris Sportsground

I've seen that ancient RAF helicopter many times parked in that back road above Yeroskipou beach (commonly known as Riccos beach, since 1974), when driving down from Nata to Riccos Beach via the short cut, in order to slide another 2 or 3 large cold bottles of (rather expensive) Carslberg down my gu...
