Re: 500 Britons become Cypriots in the shadow of a hard Brexit

I recently needed a Russian visa reasonably quickly and was told that it would not be possible using my British passport, that It would take at least 20 days and there were some problems with visas not being granted at all. Using my Cyprus passport we got a same day visa from the Russian consulate i...

Re: Message from the B.H.C.-important

I think continuation of permanent residence status is dependent on the UK reciprocating, which again I believe Johnson has failed to guarantee Yes that's right and that bit keeps being missed off the announcements. The recent law was ratifying the fact that Cyprus could take into consideration whet...

Are you VAT registered? If so, I believe VAT requires 7 full years. Great recycling solution!

As there is a 6 year deadline for them to complete assessments, I believe it is 6 + current.

Re: Legal advice - communal property

I agree. For example, painting of a largish complex can be double that amount and as it would be less disruptive and several thousand cheaper to get it done at the same time rather than staging, such a sum collected over a period of time would be justified. But, owners should be made aware of and ag...

After seeing everyone sitting down with these plastic cups, I asked for mine to be put into a proper cup. So if you ask, they do have them. This is purely to save time/cost on washing up and is unique to that restaurant as they always serve it in a coffee cup in the Mall.

Re: Giving a solicitor power of attourny?

Many people give a POA to their lawyer for conveyancing. It should state that they can sign the necessary documents for the sale of the property as instructed in writing by you. It is very useful as you now need full tax clearance to sell a property and it's very difficult to deal with the tax offic...

Re: Law allows Brits to live in Cyprus in case of no deal Brexit

I found the headline of this news article a little misleading. As said, this is just in line in line with what every other EU country is doing - that is, affording the rights to UK citizens BUT with the addition of a reciprocity principle as a pre-requisite. Therefore if the same rights are not offe...

Re: Bank Charges

Both Hellenic and Bank of Cyprus now charge for in-bank withdrawals but as mentioned above, ATM withdrawals are free. Standing orders/direct debits have always been charged for if they are for a different bank. A one off set up fee and a fee for each transfer. For the same bank to bank there is a on...

Re: Where to submit completed EHIC forms?

The EHIC is valid in all European Economic Area (EEA) countries, including Switzerland. As Britain will no longer be a member of the EU or EEA after Brexit - it will not be part of the EHIC system. So no free healthcare in the UK unless they come up with some other agreement to replace it. EHIC card...

Re: landlord/tennant dispute.

The majority of properties do not fall under the rent control law which are for specific areas and for properties constructed prior to 1999 so the above info may not apply at all. The following link describes the two types of tenancy. http://www.pirilides.com/en/publication-detail/52/types-of-tenanc...

Exactly the same happened to me. There was a code on the right of the doctor registration document which the receptionist assumed was the verification code. Eventually the doctor realised she that she has to print out a completely separate document specifically for this code and that triggers the se...

Re: Registering with a PD under GESY?

The code Galexinda detailed is something a lot of doctors don't seem to be giving their new patients. Make sure you ask for your 'Verification' code'. It's a 2 page printout - separate from the registration form that you sign. As mentioned, you will then get a second code automatically by email. Go ...

Re: EU to warn Turkey over illegal activities in Cyprus' EEZ

Why is it 'to warn' 'expected' etc. Can you imagine If Turkish ships turned up and started drilling off the coast of Britain, France or the Netherlands for example. I think much more action than a long awaited warning letter would already have been taken.
