Re: Archbishop: "We will build the hotel either next to the ancient

I took part in the recent demonstration at the site. There are some lovely ancient stone walls there and it would be a great shame to lose the site to development. The anger and demonstration was spearheaded by the arrival of bulldozers who started digging it up without there being any kind of permi...

Re: S1 Healthcare - How long will it continue in Cyprus?

The reason your employee is covered is because he is working which is the first GESY qualifying criteria. Retirees and early retirees as third country nationals will need to have MEU3/permanent resdiency unless there is some other agreement made or they may have to get a job until they get their MEU...

Re: Migraines

I suffered for years and would get sparkles like a kalaidescope in my eye at the start. If I immediately took Migralieve it would almost certainly stop it in its tracks. I had to carry them everywhere with me. I moved to Cyprus in 2003 and have only had 2 since. No idea why - diet, stress levels, su...

Re: Ants

Definite increase for me this year. I've never had them in the house before and am battling with them daily. As soon as a crumb drops - they are on their way! The trouble is that with garden areas all around, I can't spray or put powder everywhere.

Re: Meu1. No s1 and gesy

So in summary: If you are an MEU3 holder AND on a UK state pension with an S1 form, make sure you register as an S1 holder and not as an MEU3 holder otherwise you will have to contribute. If you register as an MEU 3 holder and are not working and not yet retired, make sure you switch to S1 holder wh...

Re: 500 Britons become Cypriots in the shadow of a hard Brexit

I recently needed a Russian visa reasonably quickly and was told that it would not be possible using my British passport, that It would take at least 20 days and there were some problems with visas not being granted at all. Using my Cyprus passport we got a same day visa from the Russian consulate i...

Re: Message from the B.H.C.-important

I think continuation of permanent residence status is dependent on the UK reciprocating, which again I believe Johnson has failed to guarantee Yes that's right and that bit keeps being missed off the announcements. The recent law was ratifying the fact that Cyprus could take into consideration whet...

Are you VAT registered? If so, I believe VAT requires 7 full years. Great recycling solution!

Re: Legal advice - communal property

I agree. For example, painting of a largish complex can be double that amount and as it would be less disruptive and several thousand cheaper to get it done at the same time rather than staging, such a sum collected over a period of time would be justified. But, owners should be made aware of and ag...

After seeing everyone sitting down with these plastic cups, I asked for mine to be put into a proper cup. So if you ask, they do have them. This is purely to save time/cost on washing up and is unique to that restaurant as they always serve it in a coffee cup in the Mall.

Re: Giving a solicitor power of attourny?

Many people give a POA to their lawyer for conveyancing. It should state that they can sign the necessary documents for the sale of the property as instructed in writing by you. It is very useful as you now need full tax clearance to sell a property and it's very difficult to deal with the tax offic...

Re: Law allows Brits to live in Cyprus in case of no deal Brexit

I found the headline of this news article a little misleading. As said, this is just in line in line with what every other EU country is doing - that is, affording the rights to UK citizens BUT with the addition of a reciprocity principle as a pre-requisite. Therefore if the same rights are not offe...

Re: Bank Charges

Both Hellenic and Bank of Cyprus now charge for in-bank withdrawals but as mentioned above, ATM withdrawals are free. Standing orders/direct debits have always been charged for if they are for a different bank. A one off set up fee and a fee for each transfer. For the same bank to bank there is a on...
