Latest Electricity Bills!

Hi All,
I have just received the bills for the period 20 December to 20 January, for both my own property and the communal account that I manage, and am a bit surprised at the amounts this time, both bills are over 3 times the amount of theprevious two month period. The domestic bill I expected to be higher, it has been a chilly winter and there has been extra lighting, heating and water heating involved, but the amount of the increase is a bit of a shock. The communal bill is more unexpected, as this is only for the swimming pool pump, which the pool maintainers reduced the running time for in November, so I do not see how it has used three times as many Kw/hour this billing period.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?
has the base price of Electricity shot up in the last few months?
I am going to see the pool company, and the Electricity folks to check these bills out, but would appreciate any explanations from you good folks as well, especially in respect of the pool bill
Thanks
Al
