The Caritas Charity Page has been updated.
You can now find out how recent appeals went, and what is still required.
View the page here
Unfortunately, the page is already out of date. I just received the following note from Mary. I am in the process of determining drop off locations etc to make it easier for people to help, but this is the message:
______________________________________
Just come back from a meeting with Rehab our main contact for the refugee families here.
[Ed: Rehab is a the name of a person, not a treatment centre]
She was distressed this week because after Caritas had completed its deliveries (to now 40 families) in Paphos,
they found that 5 families went without food supplies, this was the end of last week. They are still calling her.
I thought that we could make a separate appeal, highlighting this problem as and when it occurs, and making a shopping list of specific items for your audience, who might be able to make up the shortfall. I think people like to see a list, it makes donations clearer and easier.
The shortfall is 5 families. A weekly bag might contain generally: (depending on supplies)
Rice
Oil (cooking any type)
Sugar
tinned stuff, tomatos, beans, tinned fish is great
Vegetables or fruit, any type but obviously some are more useful than others such as potatoes, ....
.......but anything which people feel would fill a bag with wholesome foods would of course be fine!
Generally, outside of these items there is a massive need for all 40 families for: washing powder including hand wash powder, bathroom soaps & shampoos, baby milks (early years) and nappies, all sizes.
Things are getting difficult. The main cause of course is no benefits arriving for more families. Collection points/drop off points could be the Learning Refuge or St Pauls Pillar Church on a Sunday morning (whilst services are going on) or coffee shop opposite St Pauls Pillar.
Mary.
