Paphos Life

According to the PRIO database, Anadiou, tucked away on the edge of Paphos Forest, near Kannaviou Reservoir, has been abandoned since 1974. Well, they forgot to pass the message on to Anadiou, because as you shall see, it is far from abandoned.

I can't believe how much this place changed since I last visited in 2002, when there were only 2-3 houses intact. The rest were ruins, mainly on the way to Sarama where the sign indicates now: old Anadiou.

You asked what is it on page 2, pic 09, : it is a wooden cat. They were sold in the 90's and supposed to be indoor features. Available in all sizes. I got a group of 4 as a present when I moved houses in the past...(I think they sold them in Indian shops together with furniture from that area)

Hi Dominic: Regarding the sign that you saw on the hill/mound in Anadiou did you venture any further than the photograph ?

I used a bit of detective work coupled with my school Greek lessons and believe the actual translation is..."The Cyclames of St Andrew ( or possibly Andrea as it is used for both ).

Cyclames is the plural of Cyclamen ( a type of autumnal flower ) and was just wondering if you saw any flowers further up the hill ????

Alternatively it could mean "Please fondle my buttocks" for those that remember the Monty Python Hungarian phrase book translation !!!

You will find cyclamen in Cyprus only in the rainy season. Usually the best time to find them is Jan/Feb. depending when the first rain appeared...
