Keeping A Secret

The Learning Refuge is a centre run by Caritas Paphos, our 2018 charity. Last friday, a unique art exhibition took place at Palia Ilektriki to raise funds for the centre. Lloyd, one of our members, was there, to photograph the event...

Each picture is anonymous: the organisers wanted it that way, as some of the pictures are by famous Cypriot and other artists and are worth many times more than the €200 fixed sale price applicable to all the pictures. For this reason there was no information to accompany each picture, just a small ID for those who wanted to buy. The organisers didn't want investor collectors coming in to simply gobble up the 'famous artist' pics.

Half of the €200 sale price (on 'sold' pics) goes to the artist, the remainder to "The Learning Refuge". The theme of the exhibition was 'Displacement' and the interpretation of this theme was so amazingly varied. It's easy to think of displacement as applying only to the peoples of Syria and Iraq in the modern world, but it applies equally to Cyprus in 1974 and The Balkans in the 1990's.

We will publish the complete set of images (nearly 100) in due course in a gallery. So keep checking the Caritas Charity Page for updates.

Not only that, but Lloyd is also putting together a video of the event and Learning Refuge, so you will know more about it. It is a very worthwhile project, and Lloyd has launched a mini appeal to send them (mostly mothers and kids) on a picnic. It is separate to Caritas, and to contribute you should view this thread on our forum.
