Well that was fun. We just had to help put out a fire in the field opposite us. The wind picked it up and it was sweeping towards the centre of the village. All the neighbours came out with their hoses and we did what we could until the fire brigade turned up. There were lots of planes too, dropping water. It is handy being so close to the reservoir at times like this.

It is under control now, but please please please, do not chuck cigarettes out of your car window, or do anything else that can cause a fire. In these conditions it can start a fire that spreads rapidly. Our neighbours were very lucky the wind was blowing away from their houses.

It can be quite scary when a large fire is close to your house.


Some days ago a fire came very close to my place which I realized only due to heavy smoke which came indoors through closed windows.
When I looked outside this was only 50 m away and a huge caterpillar tried to stop the flames....however it was too steep for him to come more towards the flames.




10 minutes later the first helicopter arrived with water from the dam...the pole from EAC is on my property !!



Luckily that afternoon was only little wind, and after 3 hours the fire was under control.

Firefighters in Paphos safeguarded homes from a fire that broke out on Friday near the community of Polemi in Paphos.

According to the Cyprus News Agency (Cna), local’s homes were saved thanks to the immediate intervention by the fire brigade, meanwhile, firefighters remain on alert in case of any flare-ups due to strong winds.
