Lots of areas of Paphos are undergoing a transformation at the moment, as anybody who has tried to drive up the B7 past Lidl can testify. One particular corner of Moutallos has already received some TLC and we decided to pay it a visit...

It's well worth a visit, especially if you want a bit of quiet time.

An interesting arcticle which reminded me of our first trip to Paphos. Hiring a car Kula recommended visiting a church somewhere between Polis & Pomos. Forgotten it's name but I can remember 3 things. It was a beautiful church next to the sea & had very high individual seats which looked impressive

Could well be. I know your interest is in exploring much older history but those chairs captivated me. Why were they built like that

I just like exploring, full stop. I haven’t been inside that church but will have a look next time I’m passing.

I believe you mean Agios Raphael Church, next to Pomos at Pachyammos.

I thought about that but rejected it as it is not between Pomos and Polis. However, the chairs fit the bill.
Have a look around inside Jag:

Many thanks. It's been about 20 years ago since we visited so had forgotten the exact location. Beautiful church

Regarding those high chairs...
Having chairs at all in Orthodox churches is a relatively new idea - the congregation stand throughout the services, only really sitting for the sermon if there is one. The high chairs are pretty impractical for sitting on, if you've ever given one a go, but lift the hinged seat and stand between the arms, and you'll find they are at just the right height to lean on when standing.
