Amazon uk or Amazon DE

As we approach a no deal Brexit and banks-seemingly jettisoning their customers.
Is there any clarity around where we, in Cyprus would be best placed in respect of Amazon.

Are we likely to encounter restrictions of tarrifs or increased postal charges?
In a similar way to airlines registering planes non-uk ( eg EasyJet with Austrian registrations) is Amazon.de a viable route for us.

Regards
CL

Waste of time for most purchases on Amazon whether UK or DE as postage cost more than most items on offer !

Not necessarily. We have bought lots of things off Amazon over the years.

And remember, if you go to our Coffee page, you will find the link to Amazon.de as well as all the others! Whooooopie!

Surely any transaction with Amazon DE will be just the same after Brexit.. You can of course see the postage before buying the items

Ian hello.

You may have seen this post before it was removed to the Politics section, here goes again, this was sent to many overseas users for Amazon UK.

Hello,

As you have placed an order on Amazon.co.uk and selected an EU delivery address in the past, we wanted to let you know that from 1 January 2021, when the Brexit transition period ends, you’ll see some changes when you shop on Amazon.co.uk and select an EU delivery address. These changes could include:

- VAT (or the regional equivalent, if applicable, https://www.amazon.co.uk/vatrates) being due in the country of delivery, or your package may be subject to customs duties, taxes and fees (“Import Fees”)
- the collection of VAT, or an estimation of Import Fees (“Import Fee Deposit” https://www.amazon.co.uk/ifd), which may result in a price change at checkout.

We will continue to accept eligible returns. If the reason for return is the result of an error (e.g. if the item is defective / damaged / incorrect), any costs incurred for the return will be paid by Amazon. Otherwise, any costs incurred for the return (including transport costs, as well as any associated import fees or customs where applicable) will be payable by the person returning the goods https://www.amazon.co.uk/returnshelp.

We hope this helps and we see you again soon.

Regards,

Customer Service Department

Doesn't it depend on the country of shipping rather than the country of order in relation to import fees?
If so ordering from Amazon de could still attract fees if the goods are shipped from a UK warehouse.

Yes they do Trev, if that's where the ordered goods are stored. Also you would need to check the sellers location as some marketplace sellers on Amazon DE are UK based.

Thanks for that answer, it certainly means people will need to double check

You couldn't imagine for one moment the UK leaving the EU a few years ago but stupidity happens.

When ordering from Amazon DE you're not informed of the originating country and whilst as you say their software should show up potential import fees it's best to check before you hit the pay now button. Even the best sophisticated software is only as good as the programming and could have glitches.

Why is Amazon DE the only one mentioned, don't the other EU countries have their own branches of Amazon?

Why is the delivery charge from Amazon DE so expensive compared with Amazon UK?

As the Cyprus Postal system seems to be broke, why don't Amazon allow you to select who delivers the goods (DHL etc.)?

Not as many as you would think. There is am amzon.fr for instance, but they don't have an English option.
