You are behind the times. The limit was upped a while ago!

It is funny seeing a railway line in Cyprus! We once came across an engine on a very short bit of track. It was now part of a children's play area. I assume it is to do with the mines?

I love the blossom that is everywhere at the moment. One of my favourite memories of the UK is of a time when I was pruning some branches of our fence. There was a tree full of blossom, and I stuck my head in it and shook it. I got drenched in blossom and dew, and I don't think I have ever felt fresher.

The Cyprus Government Railway ran from 1905 until 1951. It officially opened for public transport on Oct. 21st, 1905. The first section was from Ammochostos to Lefkosia ( 57 km long) By December 1907 a further 38 km had been added, from Lefkosia to Morfou. By June 14th, 1915 a second 23 km long extension from Morfou to Evrechou was added. The railway was an important conveyor of mail to and from the Khedival Line ships which called at Ammochostos harbour and carried mail overseas. The railway was also used for the distribution of mail throughout the island, where stations also served as Postal Offices.

In Cyprus there were also other railway installations, mainly mineral railways. In 1951 the Cyprus Mines Corp. constructed a railway in order to transport ore from the mine at Skouriotissa to a jetty on Morfou Bay. There was also a mineral railway linking the mines at Kalavasos and Drapia to the processing plant at Vasiliko (in service until 1977).

In the harbours of Keryneia, Limassol and Pafos there were railway installations for transportation of good, but they had no engines. The wagons were pulled by men or animals.
